Daniel Easterly committed to Illinois
Daniel Easterly committed to Illinois. He didn't have an offer yet from Michigan, but I figure(d) that he'd get one from the Wolverines by the end of the recruiting process. I'm not sure how he'll react if he does get one, since so many of his teammates have gone/are going to Michigan.
that I have an irrational need to see on our team. I'm still not ready to call this one a ballgame yet though. I still think that Michigan offer can change his mind. He is a Cass Tech boy, after all.
This doesn't bother me, and the fact that he went somewhere but MSU is even better. He's essentially a "SS and/or OLB" type, which we have M.Robinson...and Mike Jones, I. Bell, Hawthorne. We need a legit Free Safety (C.Jones or Jerald Robinson, may be there in time) and a true Strong Safety before another SS/OLB in this class.
I don't know that I'd call a WR-turned-FS or a QB-turned-FS a "legit FS."
... that's why I said "may be there in time." I still think we need L. Anderson in this class even if Jones or J.Robinson end up as a safety their redshirt-Soph year.
good for him
i really doubt we were going to offer
Why have we not offered him?
I'm not entirely sure. He seems like he could fit the "spin" position (hybrid LB/S). I haven't heard of any character/grade concerns. The only thing I can think of is that they feel like they're in good shape with the DBs they've offered.
The nomenclature is a bit difficult to remember, but isn't the LB/S hybrid called the "quick" and the LB/DE hybrid called the "spinner" which has been changed to "DEATHBACKER?"
This is how I remembered it, but admittedly I could be wrong. As opposed to my other posts, where I absolutely cannot be wrong.
Rivals has been using this terminology:
Mike Jones (who backs up Steve Brown) is playing the "spin"
Jordan Paskorz, Ken Wilkins, etc. will play the "quick"
OK, so the quick is the one that is the same as the deathbacker? I thought Brian had used the term "spinner" for one of them. OK, I learned something today.
I've used "spinner" to refer to that OLB/DE hybrid before, too. When Greg Robinson first came on board, I could have sworn that Craig Roh said they wanted him to play the "spinner."
I'm just using the terminology that Rivals has been using recently, since their sources are probably closer to the program.
he's received meh reviews from the internets gurus.
I am Jack's complete lack of surprise.
He was kinda a guy without position. How many successful 6-6 safeties have you seen? If he camped at Michigan, he might have been able to earn an offer, but why should the coaches offer a guy that they aren't thrilled with and haven't had the chance to see in person?
Obviously RR didn't think he was good enough to play at Michigan. Thats good enough for me.
I know this is an exercise in "message post mal-organization"; however, I apparently qualify as a "n00b", despite being a long time reader and part-time contributor. That means I can't create a new thread. I wouldn't post at all, except to say that this is a sort-of-big, worth-trusting-in-my-mind rumor:
http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=451&f=2364&t=4432045
If any of you agree, then please do me the favor of moving this to the front page. It involves an unfortunate rumor that recruit Jamel Turner will likely never arrive in Columbus.
This is my "home" message board, and it is generally very good, very trustworthy, very level-headed (well, except for that barely pubescent Hawkeye contigent). Feel free to trust me if you wish.
Seems like a big story for a slow offseason.
According to the source, it just happened. If true, then Tressel is probably finding out about now (last 48 hours or so)--after having probably been worried about it for some time. The recruiting services and newspapers will be a week-or-so behind (maybe more given the gravity of the situation?).
told him he could Fuck Shit Up at Illinois. I blame this recruiting miss on all of us with facebook for not doing more on our end.
- 1 for lack of stalking.
for that golden comment
ZOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOK.
(point count +1!)
This doesn't bum me out too much. I like the guys we have at that position (who were mentioned above) and the fact that he wasn't offered even though the staff has had plenty of time to evaluate him helps to reinforce my feeling about him.
No big loss, his name is too normal. Daniel Easterly? Seriously? Maybe if his name was Boom Easterly it'd be a bigger deal.
Gotta have a name that people remember. Daniel? please. you gotta work w/ the last name you are given. Easterly reminds me of a storm, like a nor'easter. This guys name should be "Chuck" Norris Easterly. Nor'easter for short. Thats a guy I want on my team. Boom works too.
hey! get out of our pipeline
after seeing his film, was not exactly blown away. I am no expert, but i think we''ll be okay without this one.
I don't know what U saw...but this kid has range.....By the end of his senior season, I predict that He will move up into the state's top ten......!
I'm guessing you're not an expert, either.
I have seen this kid play. He is a beast...! We waited to late as if we were the only ones out to get Him....All of the Big 10, half of the Big 12....UCLA and others and U mean that this kid doesn't deserve an offer from his home state school....I don't blame Him... If you come late to the party most likely you want get in on the dance....! He plays WR just as well.....That Easterly is the real deal....! I don't even think he plans on going to a UM Camp! Its not like UM is the UM of old were everyone is knocking down the door. Love UM but If we Don't WIN THen WHAT?
