and hope this continues going forward.  I was really looking forward to some highlights and those tight camera angles were pretty much worthless.  Ah well

They left enough of the Morris bomb to Canteen to preserve the awesomeness on film, but I will say that it looked a lot better in person. In general, the scrimmage was nice cap what had been a long day for me, so I did enjoy myself and the chance to see football-type things.

If that scrimmage is any indication, and all the constraints of limited data apply right now, the defense as a whole looks like it will be pretty exciting this year. I was wondering about what the 4-3 Over would look like on the field, but I think we've got severala couple players in what I think are better positions now, particular among the LBs.

Looking forward to the season, it promises to be different, but I am not feeling 10 wins with the OL losing Lewan and Scofield.  The new hire coach will build a more cohesive unit, but I don't expect to see that out of the starting block.  Oh well looking foward to it anyway!

I didn't really see anyone talk about the speed of the defense in threads last night, but they look like they're very quick to the ball. I'd be interested in hearing perspective from those in attendance.

While the o-line still looks shaky there's no way they can be as bad as they were last year, right? I mean they have to be somewhat serviceable and I think we'll see them get better as the season progresses unlike last year. And this defense is much better both schematically and talent-wise. Depth across the board at every position. This is going to be a good season guys. Also, disappointed there was no footage of Norfleets return. This is the year he takes one back.

You have to squint pretty closely, but yes, IMO, there was a improvement there for at least the 1s. The runs were short but for the most part (Hurst safetly aside) they went forward. I think the focus has been to get the DL blocked as a priority, at the expense of getting out to the LBs. Also pass protection is noticeably better. They picked up 4 and 5 man rushes without issue for the most part, and the RBs did a better job in that respect as well. The jail house break blitzs gave them trouble, but... that's kind of the point. With the ability to call some constraint plays in a real game, I think Nuss can do something with this unit that borders on competent.

EDIT: Also, keep in mind they were without arguably the 2 best guards yesterday with Kalis held out and Glasgow getting dinged up early.

  1. Either they’ve installed parabolic microphones in the room where press conferences are held, or someone finally convinced Michigan’s Media Relations Department to pass around a microphone, so that questions asked during press conferences are audible when the video is played.
  2. Nice to see more action clips than usual in Countdown to Kickoff.

"Talk about the 2 TE sets, seemed like you did a lot of that"

"Oh yeah, that's what we like here, 2 TE, heck even 3 TE...."
