Corum Longshot Heisman Scenario

Submitted by UMVAFAN on November 29th, 2022 at 6:41 PM

I doubt Corum will play against Purdue this weekend, but if he does, could he steal the Heisman from USC’s Williams? If Utah somehow shuts USC down and Williams throws a few picks and looks human, and Corum plays, rushes for 200 plus yards, and scores 3 TDs, could he garner enough votes at the eleventh hour to win it? A strong performance against Purdue likely wouldn’t turn heads, but you never know.

In a hypothetical world where Corum wasn't at 30% but healthy all the sudden and he runs for 200+?

No. It's Williams' award. Even if he stumbled and had a bad outing they'd just go down the line back to Stroud or someone. Blake would be invited (and still may be as a 5th guy or something) but he wouldn't win.

Once the media decides a guy has won, he won. The media is unanimous right now that Williams won. He could sit this next game and win it, IMO.

I feel bad for Blake, but really - for all the fanfare the Heisman award gets, it's a dumb award.  It's just a stupid concept in a game as team-oriented and specialized as football.  Maybe it made sense in the days when guys played both ways all over the field.  But in the modern era, it's pretty silly.

Williams would probably need 5+ turnovers and Utah pretty much shutting them out for them to even consider someone else winning the Heisman. If that happens and Corum sets the Michigan single-game record for rushing yards, TDs, etc maybe he has a tiny tiny chance.

Considering that the semifinalists were announced already, and Corum isn’t included; no, no he could not win the Heisman with an amazing performance this weekend.

Corum wasn't going to win anyway. Even before OSU. Even before Illinois. The Heismann is mainly a quarterback's award these days anyway. And besides, as much as we love Corum, I'm not even sure he's going to be a first round draft pick (he's too small, and he exchanged his break-away speed for leg-strength). While that's not in any way dispositive about winning the Heismann ... it's at least an indication. No way Blake Corum was going to win the award this year.

But also ... have you seen Caleb Williams play? The guy is amazing. He gets my vote.

Impossible to be sour about last weekend, but if it were Corum healthy and dashing for 200+ and 2TD against the buckeyes in that fashion it would have given Blake the “Heisman Moment” he lacked that is so crucial. Hope he has a seat in NY still
