Correction: Nick Sheridan is NOT the Harbinger of Doom

Submitted by Six Zero on

Dear Nick,

You may remember me posting this topic after the Penn State game, and I think I was justified in my slanderous ways.  But, after yesterday's game, I think I owe it to you-- the former walk-on-- to retract my statement.

HOLY STEVE-N-BARRY'S HOODY, this kid looked pretty good yesterday!!! And at the very least, you can throw the wheel route, which Threet has been disastrous with.  I'm sure if you asked Martavious Odoms who he'd like to see behind center next week, he'd go with #8-- at least he can do something with the passes he's getting.

So Nick Sheridan, I understand it's highly unlikely you read my past personal attack on your character, but irregardless-- YOU ARE NOT THE HARBINGER OF DOOM.  Commendable effort in the Metrodome and I will not cast ill words your way for the rest of the year.  Hell, I may even wear my #8 (originally Avant) in your honor next week.

Sincerely,

60

Now we know there was a reason Rodriguez started Sheridan at the beginning of the year. I had no idea this kid had it in him.

That would be Pam Ward's voice.

Sheridan played really well yesterday.  He really did well with a bunch of things that Threet has struggled with.  You mentioned the wheel routes, but I also thought that he did much, much better with the screen passes than Threet.  I didn't like how Threet would hesitate and telegraph his passes before he threw them, so by the time the receiver finally received the ball, the defenders were already in the backfield. Sheridan did it in a much smoother motion.  Plus, Sheridan's got a set of legs, showing an impressive burst of speed.

Sheridan may be more of a finished product than Threet.  Threet's still getting the mental aspects of the position down.  The game is going fast for him and he's struggling to make his reads in time and get the ball where it needs to go before the defense can react.  But he'll figure it out eventually, and when he gets his throwing mechanics down, he should be a pretty good passer.  Sheridan is a gamer but in the long run, his lack of arm strength will do him in.  He was reasonably accurate on the deeper throws, but the ball took a long time to get there and a better defense (like OSU's) probably would've broken those passes up.

I think he was injured and out for the game.

Of the 5 or so decent looking downfield throws we've had all year, Nick threw 2 of them vs. Minnesota. I think Threet had the other 3 previously.

Crazy bizarro game.
