Coon vs. Snyder for NCAA Title on Saturday Night; 8 pm on ESPN2

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on

Saturday night is shaping up to be a great sports night for the University of Michigan.

This was included in the comments of the wrestling thread from yesterday, but it deserves its own thread.

Stevan Micic (133 pounds) and Adam Coon (heavyweight) both wrestled their way into the NCAA finals today. The finals start at 8 p.m. Saturday, and they're being broadcast on ESPN2.

Coon will be wrestling OSU's Kyle Snyder, a 2016 Olympic gold medalist, for the third time this season. Coon, as you know, won the first match during the Michigan-OSU dual meet, and then Snyder barely beat him in OT at the Big Tens. This is the rubber match, and I will be watching. I believe the heavyweights go last, so this will probably be starting right about the time we tip off against Houston.

Each need 1 win to go for third. They have some tough matches. Alec even though seeded higher is likely the underdog against Iowa’s Kemerer. Amine takes on OSU’s Jordan again. He’s won the last 2 but will be a battle. Dom has the “easiest” match going against a lower seeded Illinois wrestler. Need a few wins to stay in 4th place. If Micic and Coon win, we could push Iowa for third. NC State is nipping at our heels. I checked the bracket and pretty much all their guys will be underdogs. So good for UM. Go Blue!

Didn't look good until the third period in the third place match. Second round he chose down and didn't seem like he has much fight (gave up riding time and all). But got the take down in the third period to force overtime, and then a quick takedown in OT. Congrats to him!
