Really Beano, it might just be time to hang em' up.  The sunset may well beckon old man.

I mean c'mon:

"Is this what they had in mind when they started football back in 1869?  I don't think so."

Dude, they didn't even have the forward pass in mind, not to mention pads, helmets, 6 points for a touchdown, team buses, Boise State University, ... hell they had to commit recruiting violations via telegraph.

everyone's going to have an "omg it's the apocalypse" opinion on this.

people are going to love it or hate. or they're going to think it's just okay.

that was a great roasting.

ESPN must have signed Beano to a lifetime contract decades ago, because I cannot imagine why he is still employed, unless it is a Milton Waddams situation.

Morse code DeTranslator made that post much better. Also, I thought "Mr. Cook" was in reference to Brian, even though I just read your post. So confused for a moment there.

I usually think Beano is a crazy old coot, but I actually agree with some of what he says here. The fact that money is becoming the sole determinant for conference affiliation is a bit ridiculous. He really didn't help himself by bringing up the Big 8, though.

If money was the sole determinant for conference determination, the Big 10 would already look much different I would think.  Personally, I am proud of our conference sticking to its guns and holding a higher standard in academics.  And I really believe that if Texas comes to the Big 10, it will have a lot more to do with giant federal research grants than the BTN.

He was also the one who said psu was going to show the B10 how to win a National Championship and they were going to dominate the B10. Over 15 years later we are still waiting.
