Control

I think this was the statement WC made with taking Michigan off his list. This past weekend has been BANANAS!…in regard to if WC is Blue or not. Many tried to jump the gun and grab control of this issue by using the UM directory to our “advantage” It was perceived that we as fans had control of this issue and this guy was a lock. On some level…I admire what this kid did…by saying Michigan was dropped from the list he put the fan base back in its place…as fans. We as fans don’t make the decision nor do we have the right to announce WHERE he or any other candidate is going until they decide to make that final statement or sign. It's fun to do so, but we don't have that right. IMHO, it is very easy to think or say that moves like these are done so that the spotlight will be on him/them for an extended period of time. (I may be in the minority on this one) Another way to look at it is a fight for control. WC statement took the perception of control away from the fan base. Now he has the control back and will decide what is best for HIM when the time is right. Commence operation napalm…

I agree... let the kid have his moment in the sun by committing on live TV in front of millions. This is supposed to be one of the biggest moments in these kids' lives, but people have tried to steal his thunder, and I've got no problem in a man taking back control of his moment.

If more kids did this (or something similar) we would be less likely to jump the gun on them. Either that, or it would create an arms race where the fan base got even creepier... never mind.

All this armchair psychoanalysis of Campbell's statements and state of mind are a waste of time. He ain't coming to Michigan. He's said it directly, and he's implied it with other statements, not to mention decommitting in the first place. I think 3-9 is the biggest and most obvious reason, but that's much energy as I'm going to devote to figuring out why a 17-yr-old kid says things. Only somebody who REALLY wants to be a Wolverine will endure Barwis. All others need not apply, and I'm not sure that's a bad thing.

I don't think that looking at something from a different angle is psychoanalysis or a waste of time...it is what it is. If he comes to Michigan...great...if not...it's not the end of our program. As far as the 3-9 record...that should not be a factor for anyone coming in or thinking about coming. That record had nothing to do with the incoming class, they were not part of that. Those who were part of it shouldn't hang their heads either...it was one mixed bag of shit they had to deal with. I personally like the 3-9 record. I may not be a long standing fan like many on this board...(since 2K) but it is easy to just jump on a band wagon when a team is winning...I was one of the band wagon jumpers. I'm glad to be part of the totally fucked up season...it was painful as hell to watch. I am O.K with that, because when we return, and we will... it will be that much sweeter for me...and I can say...I remember when!
