College Football Nerds *Trigger Warning

CFB Nerds stating the obvious schism on this board... Can UM win a title with the current staff, they say no.  Can UM take a steps back to take the leap forward, yes (their words)    What say you?   (It’s the latter, pass it on)

I am a little more pro UM than them.  They are thinking 9-4 and although they think UM is better than Wiscy, MSU, & Minney they think they will lose to some of them simply because UM plays them all in a row.  I have no idea what will happen in the bowl game because it depends on who you draw and who sits out.  But, it would be a surprising to me if UM lost more than 3 regular season games.  It would also be surprising if they lost more than 2 conference games.  So I see UM as 9-3 or 10-2 in the regular season.

OSU is clearly better than UM so that's a loss.  PSU is about equal to UM so that's a 50/50 game.  UM is clearly better than Wiscy & Minney in 2020 so I have a hard time believe they lose to them.  So UM loses to OSU and one of either PSU, Wiscy, or Minney.  Everyone else is a significant underdog to UM in the conference.  I don't buy that it matters that UM plays PSU, MSU, Wiscy, & Minney all in a row, particularly since PSU is first.

They need a new d coordinator and better recruiting of the dline.  Lines win games.  D brown is fantastic when playing Rutgers but when it’s big boy time we get torched.  I’m done with that and the bullshit inflated stats from playing inferior opponents.  It’s a trick and all the truth comes out when it’s big boy time

So Gary, Vilain, Hutchinson, Smith, Hinton, and McGregor are not good enough for you? Sheesh, those are high standards.

This cycle is a bit down at d-line compared to others, but there are quite a few top recruits on the d-line on this roster. Hinton, Jeter, and Smith all need development in the middle for this year's team to do better than last. But, all are 4/5 star guys, in addition to proven guys in Hutch, Paye, and Kemp. Add to that McGregor coming in and Vilain finally healthy. There's plenty of raw talent there if they play up to their recruiting profiles.

The bigger question IMO against the OSU and Bama's of the world is can we reduce the busted coverages and wide open WR streaking down the field for long TDs?

The only game I worry about other than OSU, is playing MN on the road. At least we play WI and PSU at home but may be not much of a home field advantage without any fans? But I think we play well at home under Harbaugh. MSU may play us tough for a half or make it close by the half but I think we now have a wide talent advantage. On the road at OSU is the only for sure loss. Right now I'm counting on not playing WA on the road due to COVID concerns. But if we have to that would be a 50/50 chance of a loss on the road.

If we play WA on the road, we could have 3 losses this season.

If we do not play WA, then may be 2 losses.

I think there is a 50/50 chance we beat MN on the road and head into OSU with  no losses. I just hope we have more consistent and better QB play and our RBs continue to improve. I think the D may actually be a bit better this year.

When will this site create a virtual safe room so we can go and decompress when we read such triggering news?

They're right, this stuff is common knowledge honestly. Harbaugh won't field consistent title contending teams but that doesn't mean he can't win one. He needs a great QB and if any of the next 3 in DMC, Milton and JJ pan out then he has a real shot.

But overall we're in a similar place as Auburn where we have a shot at NY6 every year but none at the title.
