College Basketball/NIT Rooting Interests Thread

Every day is an important day for Michigan. The more 1 seeds mid-majors that win their conference tourneys, helps Michigan's chances as it saves NIT bids.

Conf Match Up Time/Net or Result
A-East Semis 4 New Hampshire at 1 Albany WON 60-58
Patriot Semis 4 Lafayette at 1 Bucknell LOST 80-74
A-Sun CHAMP 3 USC Upstate at 1 North Florida WON 63-57
CAA Semis 1 William & Mary vs. 5 Hofstra W 92-91  2OT

The board should be familiar with my Wofford Terriers from our first round matchup with UM in last year's Tourney- here's to hoping we can go back to back, again! 3rd smallest school in D1 so we need all the fans we can get!

So thankfully the Yale Bulldogs were defeated last night by a full court HRACE and buzzer beater by Dartmouth. This means Harvard and Yale are tied at the top of the league and must play a tiebreaker game next Saturday. The winner dances, but my question to y'all is

Does the loser qualify for an NIT autobid as a conference champ who has not gotten the NCAA autobid? Technically the two teams are now co-conference-champs regardless of the tiebreaker game's outcome.

No, the NIT is only required to take the 1 seed of conferences if they lose their conference tournament and do not get into the NCAA Tournament.

Ivy League has no postseason tournament. Conference champion tiebreaker gets the NCAA auto-bid in Ivy League gets.

Illinois State winning the MVC Tournament would make them the first NCAA Tournament bid thief. That is not good news for NCAA bubble teams.

Indiana fans are holding out hope they can slide in the NCAAs but NCAA Tournament bids being stolen almost certainly will keep Indiana out.

While I wait to see the 15-possession game that might be Wisconsin-OSU, I've tuned into Lafayette-Bucknell. 24-20 with about 4 minutes to go in the first - a fair number of missed threes  (4-15 between both teams) and Lafayette is not a big believer in getting the odd offensive rebound apparently.

North Florida - South Carolina Upstate has tipped on ESPN2 in the Atlantic Sun Tournament Championship Game.

5 minutes in and the score is 2-0 SCU. Abysmal shooting from both sides early on.

William & Mary has gotten out to a great start against Hofstra, who Vegas actually favors.

19-9 after the under 12.

Hofstra fans shouting, "YOU ARE GARBAGE," when a Tribe player was at the line. That seems harsh.

Also, Tarpey just rolled his ankle. No idea if he's any good or anything.

Bucknell loses and now there are only 29 guaranteed NIT bids remaining. There could be 30 if Murray State gets an at-large NCAA bid with their stellar 27-9 and perfect OVC record.

They sure as hell deserve it more than Indiana. Murray State is a good team.
