College Basketball/NIT Rooting Interests Thread
Every day is an important day for Michigan. The more 1 seeds mid-majors that win their conference tourneys, helps Michigan's chances as it saves NIT bids.
Conf | Match Up | Time/Net or Result |
A-East Semis | 4 New Hampshire at 1 Albany | WON 60-58 |
Patriot Semis | 4 Lafayette at 1 Bucknell | LOST 80-74 |
A-Sun CHAMP | 3 USC Upstate at 1 North Florida | WON 63-57 |
CAA Semis | 1 William & Mary vs. 5 Hofstra | W 92-91 2OT |
MAAC Semis | 1 Iona vs. 4 Monmouth | WON 95-77 |
SoCon Semis | 1 Wofford vs. 4 W. Carolina | WON 73-61 |
We also get to watch Wisconsin destroy OSU on their senior day at 4:30 on CBS.
Knock on wood...
How come? Also, that point total in a year? Do we need to have an intervention?
EDIT: Welp, glad we were both wrong. Wisc up 14 at the half.
First few minutes so far are not going our way.
Does the loser qualify for an NIT autobid as a conference champ who has not gotten the NCAA autobid? Technically the two teams are now co-conference-champs regardless of the tiebreaker game's outcome.
No, the NIT is only required to take the 1 seed of conferences if they lose their conference tournament and do not get into the NCAA Tournament.
Ivy League has no postseason tournament. Conference champion tiebreaker gets the NCAA auto-bid in Ivy League gets.
Illinois State winning the MVC Tournament would make them the first NCAA Tournament bid thief. That is not good news for NCAA bubble teams.
Indiana fans are holding out hope they can slide in the NCAAs but NCAA Tournament bids being stolen almost certainly will keep Indiana out.
While I wait to see the 15-possession game that might be Wisconsin-OSU, I've tuned into Lafayette-Bucknell. 24-20 with about 4 minutes to go in the first - a fair number of missed threes (4-15 between both teams) and Lafayette is not a big believer in getting the odd offensive rebound apparently.
Albany up on UNH.
New Hampshire up 35-32 at halftime.
Shit.
North Florida - South Carolina Upstate has tipped on ESPN2 in the Atlantic Sun Tournament Championship Game.
5 minutes in and the score is 2-0 SCU. Abysmal shooting from both sides early on.
William & Mary has gotten out to a great start against Hofstra, who Vegas actually favors.
19-9 after the under 12.
Down 4 now.
North Florida has exploded to a 13-6 lead. That place is going NUTS.
PSU is 16-15 now, Minny is 17-14
Hofstra fans shouting, "YOU ARE GARBAGE," when a Tribe player was at the line. That seems harsh.
Also, Tarpey just rolled his ankle. No idea if he's any good or anything.
William & Mary up 3 at halftime.
Albany and New Hampshire is winding down on ESPN3. 49-49 with under 7 left.
Bucknell is not looking like they will be helping us.
I am keeping my rooting interests consistent and simple: Michigan victories and an NCAA berth.
That is what our team deserves.
Albany wins!! They're headed to the America East Tournament Championship!!
Albany survives.
It will be 3 Stony Brook at 1 Albany for the America East Tournament Championship on Saturday at 11am live on ESPN2.
Barring Lafayette suddenly losing all ability to hit free throws, Bucknell is going to the NIT.
William&Mary now down 9 with over 5 to go. Looks like that's one spot in the NIT lost.
Bucknell loses and now there are only 29 guaranteed NIT bids remaining. There could be 30 if Murray State gets an at-large NCAA bid with their stellar 27-9 and perfect OVC record.
They sure as hell deserve it more than Indiana. Murray State is a good team.
Bucknell lost. William & Mary looking like they might lose. Northern Florida tied with under 8 to go.
W&M cut it to 4 with 3:19 left.
Down to 3 for 2 minute warning
W&M allowed too many open 3s. Might be their undoing. Finally had some momentum and cut it to 2, then an open corner 3.
Missing free throws hasn't helped, either.
North Florida starting to pull away. Up 8
And 1 opp for W&M
W&M need some missed FT now. down 2, Hofstra at the line with 30 left
Hofsta missed front end of 1 and 1, W&M took it to the hole right away, got fouled, to the line for 2 because of double bonus
AHHHHHHHHHH
Tie game, Hofstra ball for last shot with 21.2 seconds left.

William & Mary forces OT.
OT, W&M with the momentum, hope they keep it and Hofstra plays like we have in OT
