Sounds like Michigan is finally getting the machinery moving on the NIL front.  Focus appears to be on multi-year earnings for athletes (as opposed to signing bonuses) and board members include several former players.

Quote from Jim Harbaugh, “Champions Circle and VMG embody the core values of our program by providing NIL opportunities for our student-athletes,” Harbaugh said in a statement. “I consider them to be a trusted agent and encourage our Michigan family to support them in our NIL efforts.”

It will also help that Michigan (seemingly) hasn't been caught bullshitting croots and families to the extent that other schools and their donors already have been. We haven't heard about a lot of, "We'll give you $1 million--ope no we'll just take that back real quick" around this football program

It feels like the sleeping giant is starting to wake up. Given where the football program is already at while one hand has been tied behind its back, that spells trouble for our Big Ten brethren.

Let's hope so.

To be honest though, it will still be tough for us to compete with the SEC. Even Ohio State's NIL programs are balking at matching the offers that top prospects are getting from SEC schools. And that aside, the demographic trends and ongoing population shifts don't favor states in the B1G footprint. Case in point: in 1970, Georgia's population was about half that of Michigan's. Today, they're about even.

Having said that, it's good to see that the program is trying its best on the NIL front. In one of the years that a non-SEC school wins the national championship, I think we have as good a chance as any to be that school.

I think this will mostly just prevent other schools from negative recruiting practices against us by saying we don't even have an NIL program in place. I don't see this vaulting us past the top tier NIL programs. But I am glad it is in place and that the student athletes can benefit from it. It will definitely help us keep the talent we have but I anticipate us bringing in the same level of recruits.

It's taken time - and - a perspective might be that it's taken too long.

This being said - do you think Michigan has enough in the NIL tank to ensure prospects have a positive opinion of Michigan's approach?

"If you built it, he will come..."

My view is - school's that had a very proficient lunch program - which is another way to describe "brown bagging" - have probably found the transition easier.
