CFB Risk Week 3 Recap - Risk Bot! And I'm Seeing Boosted Stars
First thing's first -- if you missed yesterday's recap, we've got an orders website for Michigan Rogue Force!
http://www.whataremyorders.com/
This site is dead simple to use.
(1) Go to the website
(2) Click "Please authenticate"
(3) Click to allow permission with Reddit
(4) Get your order and click "Accept"
This site will allow us to get more coordinated with our attacks without causing anybody heartburn trying to figure out Discord (which you should still join).
And if you look at the above and say "I do what I want!," then just please attack A&M, OSU, or Wisconsin.
---------
Now then, let's talk about this past week. From a leaderboard standpoint, we fell off some (47 -> 29, and from 1st to 3rd).
To be honest, though, I'm not mad. Risk is all about the location of your territories, and I like our locations:
(1) Large chunks of Canada and parts of the Northern USA
(2) A foothold in A&M country, where, with the help of Michigan Rogue Force (c), we are at the doorstep of Texas.
From a pure power perspective, both of these positions are very, very important. As y'all know, we've got a hefty raw star advantage (2,611 vs. 1,633 for 2nd), and that advantage will continue to grow as you and your fellow soldiers level up in stars (side note: Play. Every. Day. Your "Streak" is essential for your star power).
However, Region bonuses are a game changer. For every Region a team controls, they get a 50% power boost. So, looking again at our territory locations, we see that...
(1) Michigan's total control of Central Canada for tonight's roll turns our 2,611 stars into 3,916.5 stars.
(2) A&M's total control of Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico turn their 1,284 stars into 2,568 stars. DOUBLE the power.
(3) Ohio State's lack of regional control means their impressive 1,633 stars get no boost.
And if you look closer, you can see that A&M is just 7 territories away from THREE MORE REGIONS. With a lucky roll, they could more than triple their star power for the next turn.
We control 4 of those 7 territories. The onus is on us to keep the Death Star under construction.
Michigan Rogue Force(c), you've done a great job. We need your help to return balance to the Forc -- err -- CFB Risk Map.

That Orders link is way better than signing up for discord. Thanks. I made my move.

Both are still active.
If you want to simply be told what to do (no thinking involved), use the new orders site.
If you want to work within the organized team structure but have a say in strategy and actual pick where you go, use the discord.
If you want to do your own thing, go for it - just read the recap posts for all the info you need.
You choose your level of involvement.
At the end of the day, any participation is good for the team - regardless of how you do it.

Thank you soldier.

I was a Rogue, mostly because I wasn't going to get into Dischord just for this.
This was much easier to do, so thanks. 3-star Rogue reporting

Glad to have you as part of the Force.

I can't tell if I'm too old or too young to understand what the hell these posts are

Same man, same. But I still hope they win their pretend board game thing. Go team!

This is exactly the right attitude.
It's like when Michigan is in robotics competitions. You probably wouldn't watch them even if they were televised, but you can still say "Go Blue!"

Is it really any different than watching a bunch of kids run around on a field or a court? Still just vicariously participating.
Actually, this is a little different... anyone can be part of this team and play. It takes 2min per day and no special skills (and you aren't competing with teammates for a limited number of playing spots).

We're playing a game of Risk that's centered around College Football. It's a very nerdy thing that gives us a chance to "play" for Michigan and feel superior.
The posts are meant to recruit other nerds to the game and also to provide some silly, informative commentary about a game that only matters for bragging rights.

Does it still favor defending a territory than attacking in terms of strength?
February 13th, 2023 at 4:51 PM ^
Defenders get a x1.5 bonus always. No inherent bonus for attacking.
February 13th, 2023 at 4:47 PM ^
Who decides the orders anyways?
February 13th, 2023 at 4:55 PM ^
Team leaders are creating the orders.
Clicking the new website (whataremyorders) link *assigns* you a target, but you don't know what the rest of the team is doing.
If you want to know what the whole team is doing and then choose your target from the complete list of priorities, use the Discord link.
If you want to do your thing (no orders or organization), go ahead! The MGo posts try to highlight a few places that could use some enterprising Michigan fighters to make an appearance, but up to you!

I’ve been following the discord and tend to complete the orders asked, I’m just curious how we vetted the best risk players and strategists in our fan base to lead our forces. I’m terrible at risk so happy to just click whatever helps but just wondering

sheesh, good on Iowa State for holding only the entire state of Colorado and nothing else. also no map, I am sad.

Mondays are always going to be an odd post... not much "new" information compared to Sunday's post.
February 13th, 2023 at 9:08 PM ^
I'll keep that in mind for the next Monday post. But like CRG said, nothing happens on Sunday night. Monday is meant to capture the vibe of the previous week and drive home key messages.
And I'll also occasionally use them to go on random ass tangents.
