I know you're criticizing the poster rather than GR3, but the relatively late recruiting profile leap that benefitted him early as draft prospect has caused some reactionary negativity.  While it's absurd at this point to suggest Joe D (or any GM) would be making a mistake to pass on the kid in this year's draft, I would have said the same about THJ.  Especially after his sophomore year, he didn't look particularly draftable to me beyond the athleticism and pedigree.  A year and a half later, I'd say he has an NBA roster spot somewhere for a long time, topping out around intermittent starting "role player" or great 6th man.

How?  They didn't draft Trey Burke......and he continues to show why he is a very good NBA talent.  He'll probably win rookie of the year......he would have sold so many tickets in Detroit.

I think we should of drafted carter-williams, he's the rookie of the year and has the most upside between him burke and kcp. Burke would've looked nice in a pistons jersey but I think ownership wanted a pg that was already in the NBA as opposed to breaking in a college player. I think joe was forced to draft a wing prospect, I would've liked hardaway as a piston I'm just not sold on kcp.

the last few years, little kids and it being late, I watched it and wow did they ruin the dunk contest. Do they think we would rather watch wnba girls and 50+ y old men shooting from half court and a skills challenge then the best bball athletes dunking? that was atrocious.

The year Dominique got screwed for his two handed windmill dunk. No one gave him a 10 so that they could give Jordan a 10 for his free throw line dunk. You know, the dunk he and Dr J did many times before. Knew then it was a popularity contest and not objective. When you were as young as I was at the time, it was a sad realization.

For all the KCP supporters out there I can give one very powerful arguement why Dumars completely shit the bed not picking Burke last year besides the fact he's a exponentially better player.

Pistons rank 27 out of 30 NBA teams in attendance.

When you are that far down (and dropping by the way) you would have to be brain damaged to NOT pick a local favorite that just happens to be the best player available when it's your turn to draft.  Most teams with a GM possessing a Wonderlick score higher than Vince Young's would've traded UP to get Burke - not purposively pass on him.

is a Sparty. I wouldn't blame Dumars entirely for Trey although he does suck at his job.

To your point I would attend many games with my kids and they would all have Trey Jerseys if he was a piston. He's a draw for a big part of the fan base.

Also remember he took Cleaves (bust) as a lottery pick.

Joe must go!

First of all, the notion we didn't draft Trey Burke because Gores is a Spartan is stupid and completely unfounded.  They wanted to unload Knight.

Second of all, why is Trey Burke a local favorite exactly? He played at Michigan for two years and isn't from the state.  Coupled with the fact that the state is pretty evenly divided between UM and MSU for basketball, you'd only have a contingent of Michigan fans who cared.  The comparison strikes me similar to Steve Alford except he was from Indiana and the star of the premier basketball program in the state.  I'm not saying KCP is Steve Alford but rather that comparison is more apt of what a "local favorite" is.

trey burke "isnt a local favorite" and "only played 2 years in michigan"?

get the hell out of here.

he won the national player of the year, got michigan to the ncaa finals. was the guy that got michigan basketball to national relevance (beilein is obviously also a factor here, but burke expidited this process big time).

i have a feeling if this were 1998 and the lions had the #2 pick, there would have been many here happy to see the lions draft ryan leaf over charles woodson.

this place is bonkers over the issue. all we need is thelasthoke to come in and mention trey missed 8 games to start the year.

we're a michigan blog - we SHOULD be homers for trey. but in this situation, we dont have to be. michigan fanboys, objective nba gurus, the people who care about franchises' bottom lines (for some reason) can all agree dumars shit the bed big time. it was obvious at the time of the pick, and has only become more apparent as the season progressed.

he whipped the pistons in auburn hills, he's a top contender for ROY, he would have fit a need (except, joe would have had to rework his plan to overpay for a pg that will never ever win anything) and he just won the skills competition. and he's 20! by his 3rd year, we'll be comparing him to chris paul.

give me trey and andre drummond, and filling the holes would have been easy.

Good numbers but they not great. Similar squads like Jennings had in Milwaukee in his rookie year and he eclipsed fifty in a game and average more points. Trey Burke is gonna be good. I don't understand why people can't just be happy for trey and hope our local team does well at the same time.

Games ( tickets are cheap). KCP is not the reason people don't go to games. I believe there are many factors non basketball related, that attribute to the decline. I'm not Slow, the product on the floor in the past has been underwhelming, but this team can actually be good with a few added players. Miami is not good just because of the big 3 but because of the financial sacrifices made by other good players on their roster. It's unfortunate we have to over pay free agents too come play with us, I serious believe there are external factors that play a Hugh role. I find it appalling that many think joe d somehow just lost his mind, and that they know more about running a nba team then he does. Trey Burke was special and very likable and did greats things for michigan. Let's not forget the owner did go to msu
