On right now; Gardner is a natural.

What a horrible game that was. Penn State with field goal misses in both 1st and third overtime, and Michigan couldn't capitalize either time. Of course, it really shouldn't have even gone to overtime. This is also the infamous Toussaint 27 for 27 game. Michigan would have won with just average coaching, but we all know what they had instead.

True.  Coming off the ND game, we were all high as a kite.  Borgess had the perfect QB for his system.  We had a senior RB, a returning All-American at LT, and plenty of talent from some great recruiting classes.  The game preview on this board predicted a 62-0 win.

And on the last play of the game, we were exactly one yard from losing to one of the worst teams in the country.

That loss would’ve been worse than App State. At least App State was the Alabama of the FCS and was a legitimately well-coached, great team in it’s own right.

Akron was downright awful. One of the worst teams in the country. But I think Tressel spoke to their team in the locker room right before the game for a little pep talk.

That guy just has the ability to make everything go wrong for Michigan.

Only the Big Ten could consider this monstrosity a classic game.

Eight overtime possessions. Three missed field goals, three made field goals, a turnover, and a two-yard TD run.

When a kicker is the featured studio guest, you know you've got a winner.

Even I don't really want to watch that game.  Besides, Wrestlemania 3 is on Fox Sports 1!!!!!!  I was at the Silverdome that day!

On a tangent, I sometimes wonder how many people on Earth besides me can say they have:

(1) been to a Wrestlemania,

AND (2) seen the Pope (also at the Silverdome),

AND (3) been to a Rose Bowl (January 1, 2009, PSU vs USC)

AND (4) been to a Super Bowl (XL, Seattle vs Pittsburgh)

AND (5) been to a USFL Championship Game (I was 6, so I barely knew what was going on, but I was at the first title game in Denver when Michigan won)

I'm 3-for-5. The first part of the answer is no one under 35 can say it, so that's a starting point.

Looks like average attendance for USFL title games was 50K. There were three of them, all of which featured Philadelphia, so some of those people are repeated. Let's be conservative and say 125K.

They're football fans, so let's be generous and say 10% of them have also been to a Rose Bowl/Super Bowl. You're down to 12,500.

If you met 12,500 people at random, how many would consider themselves 1.) devout Catholics and 2.) pro wrestling fans. You don't have to be either to meet the pope/go to WrestleMania, but I'm going to bet you're in a group of maybe a dozen people on the planet to do all five. And given the timeline, sadly a few of those who have are probably dead.

(I love figuring out things like this I'll never be able to prove.)

It was admittedly a bit of a stupid tangent I went off on (but did anyone here really want to talk about that "27 for 27" game anyway???) ---- but it's a fun thought question.  I like your logic.

I doubt Donald Trump has been to a Rose Bowl, but if he has, he's definitely 5 for 5.

Which 3 were you at (I'm guessing Rose Bowl, Wrestlemania and Super Bowl)?

I remember this game very clearly and have never been angrier at a football game (I had some pretty bad anger issues when I was younger). I was absolutely fuming at Brady Hoke and Brendan Gibbons after this game. Had it in the bag and even when it went to OT they had absolutely every opportunity to win and they fucking blew it. Fuck that game.

No one is upset (aside from maybe Maizen) that Harbaugh recruits 3* as well. Guys fly under the radar all the time and it’s fine to take a flier on a couple of guys each year that are boom/bust projects. OSU and Alabama do it as well.

What people are upset about is that seems to be the only players Harbaugh is going after now, or seem to be able to get. Regardless of the reason why, it makes beating OSU that much harder.

Was this the Coward Ball game where we averaged like 1YPC yet Hoke/Borges insisted on running up the middle over and over?

What a derpfest of a game. Game should never have even gotten to overtime, but even when it did, you were legitimately asking yourself “does either team want to win this game?”

As I checked through the listings for last night's viewing, when I saw 2013 Michigan-Penn State I said out loud "Oh my God, that is horrible!" I scrolled on as quick as I could. Just seeing the listing was traumatic. 27 for 27. That infamous screenshot of Penn State with five defensive lineman and no one within 15 yards of the slot receiver and no bubble screens… That game shook my faith in humanity, much less the coaches involved.
