Brady Hoke and Glenville HS

Submitted by Dreisbach1817 on

This isn't necessarily "insider news," but a comment from Frank Clark that struck me as rather interesting and very encouraging.  Clark is a 3 star TE/LB who will be visiting this weekend for his official.  Frank Clark plays at Glenville.  I think this kind of statement will help us, especially in 2012.  My guess is for Clark it will come down to Michigan and Michigan State:

"I will be visiting Michigan next week, and I'm excited about that," he stressed. "I haven't really talked to the new coaching staff, but they have been talking to Coach (Ted) Ginn about me, and I know he respects the new guys a lot. They have been talking."

That right there is called Brady Hoke developing good relationships with Ohio Coaches, including one of the premier (if not the premier) HS coaches in the state.

Didn't he like RR?  I thought I heard that somewhere.  Until we get a guy that OSU offered from Glenville, I will wait and see.  But, it can't hurt getting players from there.  I think Sam Webb said that Hoke and Ginn sr. like each other and while at Ball St., Hoke got some guys.

That's a good point.  I wish we can get a fair shake to go up against OSU, but it is what it is.  I like our pipelines with Cass Tech and Trotwood-Madison.  Was excited about Dr. Philips, but that may not be a pipeline anymore.

I excited about Cali recruits, but I hope it is not at the expense of Florida.   Does anyone know why Coach Hoke offered the Dt and DL from Florida that are committed to Tenn.  Does he get guys from Florida.  I know that it is a position of need, just curious about 2 guys from Florida.  I checked the SDSU roster and all Cal and Arizona kids.  I wich we can get that Christian Hayward kid.

I live here in Northern Ohio and used to recruit for Michigan.  Back in the early 90's it was WAY easier to get the kids we wanted cause Cooper placed a greater emphasis on national recruiting than he did in the in-state kids.  Tressel, being not only a better coach but exponentially smarter than Cooper, has slammed the borders shut to virtually all out of state schools.  He has done this by always offering the Ohio kid first and the out of state kid second whenever there's a toss-up and the HS coaches here know it.

I don't think it really matters who we have as a coach as long as sweatervest is in charge in Columbus.  He is good....real good...at keeping the homegrown talent in state and there is a lot of it here for him to choose from.

The peer pressure here to go to OSU is tremendous.  And remember, if you're an exceptional athlete in Ohio you play football, not basketball, hockey or baseball so the talent pool is deep.

We had a window in the 70s and 80's with Bo because he WAS an Ohio guy and had lots of firends here in the high school coaching ranks.  The window stayed open in the 90s because Cooper wasnt from Ohio and placed a higher value on the out of state recruits.

The window is now shut, locked and has iron bars covering it.

is from Ohio.  Kettering, specifically.  He coached at Toledo.  He coached at Ball State.  He coached at Michigan.

Clearly, one of the reasons he was hired is to recruit Ohio and Michigan.  He will do that.  The door will not remain so closed as it was when Rodriguez looked to Floriday first, then Michigan and Ohio.

Hoke is also thought of as an excellent recruiter.  I think we can expect better results from the midwest (and California) with Hoke.

Gotta say that Mgrowold here is dead on.  Having only 1 Big ten school in the state makes it such that getting kids out of Ohio is tough.  One thing going our way is that many young males want to go away from home to college.  I think the sweatervest's tightening up of Ohio recruiting is one of the reasons for his team's continued success.

I live in northeast Ohio and Ginn Sr is a pure thug he dresses like one and is a horrible coach that has never win a state title He wastes talent every year The whole team is full of thugs that usually don't pan out

but he certainly isn't a very good coach. he ALWAYS has the most talent in region 1 and routinely gets outcoached by ed's/iggy.

i remember several years ago he had warren harding beat, up a couple with 1 minute left, harding all out of timeouts. 2 kneeldowns and get back on the bus.

called a slant (wtf?) and mario manningham stepped in front and took it back to the house for the win.

that said, his teams are loaded, and getting in good with him is certainly advisable for Hoke.

that is what I call it. Every year they have more raw talent than any school in the state. Every year they dominate the Cleveland public school league and then lose to a Catholic school in the playoffs. Last year in their best showing they lost the state finals on a two point conversion by a Columbus public school.  Trotwood is the mini Ginnville. They usually lose to a way less talented team in the playoffs because of  "special teams,"  lack of discipline, and poor coaching. Twood was a litle different this year because they blew a 20 point lead in the state finals and lost to a slot ninja qb who they could not stop in the second half. FYI-Ginnville is D1 (biggest) and Twood is D2 and may go to D3 soon.

When we steal a good recruit in Ohio we not only help ourselves but hurt the bucknuts who presumably would have gottent the kid.

Think about it, little bro improved when RR abandoned recruiting for all intents in the state of Michigan.  Those athletes went to LBU (little brother U).  Now that Hoke is refocused in the Midwest, the sledding gets tougher for everyone else.
