BPONR - I Turned Off A Game. In The First Quarter
BPONR. I am in the Bottomless Pit Of Negative Reality. I just turned off a Michigan football game. In the first quarter.
I watched my first game in 1978. I missed games for various reasons; family events, births, illnesses, jobs, kids' sports, what have you. But I have never turned off a game.
When Shea Patterson overthrew the game-tying touchdown and then we fumbled it away, AGAIN, I felt myself growing unreasonably angry. Then, when Wisconsin proceeded to make Swiss Cheese out of our defense, I was seething, so I turned it off. It's stupid to sit there pissed off and depressed on a Saturday. Over a game. A game played by a team and school I love, but a game.
I watched everything. ASU. Oregon. Clock-gate. The Rocket. The touchdown that was but wasn't in the Rose Bowl. I sat through every Rich Rod game. Every Brady Hoke game. Every minute of Clowney-fest. I watched Spring 'Games.' I watched the OSU debacle last year, and every minute of the Florida un-inspiration.
I love these guys. I watched because I just knew things would change for the better. This guy would get healthy, this guy would get better. This offense would coordinate us un-ending points...But you know what? In my BPONR, none of this is true. We're just another football team. We're middling to good like just about everyone else.
At some point, I just had to see the reality that our football program isn't anything special beyond the great school and tradition it represents. We're decent. We aren't Rutgers. We aren't Illinois. Great programs don't spend year after year the way we have since 1997, at best, barely holding our own with the best, but mostly losing to them and too often, losing to average teams.
I just couldn't waste 3+ hours watching us suck today.
Maybe things will get better, but not today, so I shut off the TV.

BPONE isn’t real.
BPONE is just something made up by so called “analysts” who don’t know football and never will.
Thank you for listening to my TED talk.

Bold move, one that I both understand and respect.

+1. I was out with the kids when game started. Got home. Watched first drive and felt it wasnt going to end well. Checked the live score (28-0) on my phone. I laughed. Turned off tv. Went straight back out with kids. Just no joy in it.

I didn't watch, replacing my brake pads today. After the sh*tshow two weeks ago i kind of knew what was coming. Checked the internet at 12:20ish, it was already 7-0, I said yep, I chose correctly. Harbaugh needs top flight or at least very experienced assistants, he doesn't get them and the mediocre comes out

I'm not sure what's needed; but I suspect that, at least in part, we aren't going to compete for National Championships unless we are willing to do things this University will never countenance. Nor do I want them to. I just want them to be as good as a program can be doing things right, and maybe catch lightening in a bottle every decade or so. That is not happening right now.

Good? Maybe, but a Jim Harbaugh team will never compete with the greats. The sad fact is that the team is regressing.

But you spent 3+ hours typing a nice story about your disappointment.

+1 because it's funny, but it only took ten minutes! Took my son out. Been working on my car.

I don't believe you or anyone else who will say this
Bsides, if you did, you missed it because WE WON THE SECOND HALF!!!!

I turned it off at 21-0 and not sure when the next time I will watch them.

If John U Bacon's last book was Harbaugh and the crossroads of Michigan football, will his next be JH and the death of Michigan football?
Harbaugh is now a failure here. We need a NON-Michigan man to rebuild this program. We are back to where Richrod took us.

That's taking it too far. This feels more like 2007. Rather than lose a stunner to Army like we did to App State, we won, but it felt the very similar despite the win. Then we come out and get destroyed by a quality opponent like we did against Oregon.

After the lost fumble on the first drive, I thought to myself, “I have seen this one before.” And turned it off. There appears to be something fundamentally wrong with this team. The lesson, as always, is that hiring an OC from Alabama will lead to a bad season. Science.

Pretty much where I went. I waited until W ran through us a couple more times on the ensuing drive, then turned it off.

I had a terrible feeling about this game. So I went golfing. Way better way to spend a day

I've been thinking "BPONR" since I turned off the game in the FOURTH quarter. Took my until today to do a google search and see if anyone else had said it before.
Was unsurprised when it had and it related to this game.
