BGSU 2023 MGoBoard Tailgate?

Submitted by will on September 11th, 2023 at 9:31 PM

I will be bringing my 10 year old son to his second ever game in the Big House, for my first ever night game.

I'll be driving up from Columbus.. Do people from mgoboard typically congregate before night games?

We did the band show and march to the game last time.. It was as awesome as described.

If there is a mgoboard tailgate,  is it kid appropriate?

If no such thing exists, any suggestions on what to do besides a stop in mDen to buy a properly fitting jersey or hoodie for the little man?

Sharing Michigan football with your son - that’s one of life’s richest experiences.  I can’t help you in the answering the tailgate question, but I hope you make priceless memories. Take a couple good pics as well - you will treasure those.

Park on the golf course and enjoy the weather (hopefully). Toss the ball around. Bring some lunch/dinner. It'll be a great time. You'll probably find some friends and entertainment without looking.

I would suggest just saying hi and introducing yourself to fun looking groups….  If we were tailgating this weekend, you’d be welcome to join us - but, unfortunately we won’t be hosting a tailgate for the BG game…

Hit up Frita Batidos during your stay!

And no matter what, make sure your young'n has a great time. I'm 42, lived in SE Michigan for most of my life and have never experienced a game at The Big House. Social anxiety and what not, I'm always jealous as I read the gameday experience threads posted here.

To me, a night game versus Bowling Green seems like it will have the feel of ESPN Sunday Night Baseball in mid-April back in the day. Sure, it was at night, and yeah, it was a game, but it was a game that could have been easily finished by now if someone didn't feel a compulsion to just fill slots on the television schedule irrespective of potential quality.

Take him to the Charity Tailgate on Hoover by the train tracks. I'll have a board post on this this week but it's run by the charity NIL group at the spot next to Elbel Field on Hoover. We used to tailgate at before the Purchase Radio building was knocked down but the same guy owns it (and the MGoTailgate house) and has been wanting to make it the official mgoblog tailgate--we would if any of us were willing to give up our family traditions (I tailgate at my cousin's). They'll have three of the women's teams tailgating there too. Food truck and beer that you can buy, all the money goes to charity or Michigan players involved in the charities. Get to see the band march right by!

I can't make this one because it's Rosh Hashanah but I plan on going to the next one (vs Rutgers).

You can usually find street parking in the neighborhoods if you're early enough in the day. I used to park on West Mosley.

This.  If you don't have a specific affiliation, this is an awesome spot.  I haven't been since 2018 or 2019, but if memory serves they have a covered area that had some TVs with the earlier games going.  If nothing else, it was a great spot to get out of the wind or sun and catch the games that were on and get some really great food.

I was just getting ready to type this myself!

Great tailgate with ample space to sit at picnic tables or dance by the DJ booth. Family friendly and just about a 7 minute walk from the stadium.

I was there for the opener and plan to be back this weekend! Go Blue!

The weather forecast for Saturday looks tremendous - high of 72 - low of high 50's / 60 by the end of the game.  My guess is - people will arrive "earlier" than normal for a night game.   It seems like ideal conditions to walk around campus - visiting - and tailgating before the game.

Evening games really provide an opportunity for fans to take advantage of the weather - and enjoy a lot of "pre-game" activities before kickoff.

Have a great time and enjoy these conditions.

If we were in town I’d invite you to tailgate with us, but walking through the golf course you’ll easily make friends who you can sit with and talk to! Enjoy the game with your son!

This thread seems like a decent place to ask this...

I'll be coming in with my three boys (11,13, and 16). It's their first Michigan football game, thanks to MGoUser Double-D for the tickets.

Anyways, my oldest has a high school soccer game and we won't be able to get into AA until about 6pm. I'm curious where would be some good spots to find parking without too much trouble at that time? I don't mind walking a little ways, I just don't want to drive around forever looking for parking? Any other tips to make getting in and settled as smooth as possible?
