Been gone for a week

I have been gone for 6 days off the map and have noticed this -1, +1 thing on the comments. I was wondering what that was and what else have I missed?

They moved up the Western Michigan game to last Saturday. Too bad you missed it. Tate threw for 3 touchdowns and Denard ran for 3 more. First shutout for the defense in quite a while. Barwis concussed himself head butting a bunch of winged helmets.

the new, bright neon maize home jerseys made up for the dim lighting conditions due to the 9PM start time. The game was so rousing that Metallica could barely be heard on the PA system over the raucous alumni section's loud cheering. By that, I mean helter-skelter, willy-nilly and putt-putt.

They're nifty, but holy cow - the absolute proliferation (which I attribute to "ooo, new toy!" syndrome) of them so far has my head spinning. I might get marked down for it, but there's inadvertent misuse going on. I will add here that all of this is just like, my opinion, man. What they are, ideally MGoPoints are about self-moderation. It's a method for the community to weed out things that are unfavorable - trolling, spamming, posting things that are generally against the rules in any online community (child porn, racism, unsolicited advertising, etc), and so-on and so-forth. What they aren't, ideally A method of disagreeing with a poster. Ok, so that guy wants night games, maize jerseys, smoke machines, and the intro bass riff from For Whom the Bell Tolls to play over the speakers in our new 1296" HD Plasma scoreboards in the endzones. That doesn't mean vote him down, he didn't do anything except post his opinion (he definitely earns a good berating in replies, however). The reverse holds true. Ok, that poster makes a prediction that I agree with (7-5 with a bowl appearance). Am I going to +1 it? Maybe in response, but most certainly not with a click. Points should probably be reserved for posts that provide to the community. Decent diaries are exactly that style of content. ShockFX's sticky on HTML is a perfect, shining example. The post just made with HD highlights on YouTube is another. Are there exceptions to all of the above? Most certainly. There are always grey areas. There's also the ability to game the system. That link above? I believe each unique click is worth two points (tokens may change though, haven't checked). If that's the case, feel free to spot this one down one if you clicked above and it counted, seeing as how I misled you and that's not very nice. edit: however, with the way things are now, I can see a clear divide forming among point categories over time, which sets up moderation by a certain point perfectly
