beaver fever

Submitted by wingedG on
After momentarily getting caught up in the Tate Forcier epidemic I finally came to my senses. Shavodrick Beaver will start next year, mark it down. tate is a jimmah clausen and grothe clone. we need a big freaky qb in order to get back into the national title discussion and big ten championships. dont get me wrong, tate might be a decent game manager but not the type of qb to lead UM back from the depths. expect greatness. Beaver is much more like, dare i say, a troy smith than tate is or ever will be. your comments Please.

Unless Tate rolls up to his LOI signing in a Hummer limo, I refuse to stick him with the Emu comparison. Jimmah Clausen pulled off the equivalent of a 109-yard kickoff return - it is physically impossible to be more arrogant entering school than he was. He has sent an arrogance record that may be equaled but can never be surpassed. As for on the field, we will need both. I think it's become fairly clear that RR quarterbacks get hurt. And I think RR knows this, hence the concerted effort to get two in the class. It matters little whether or Tate or the Beav "starts" because the PT ratio (whoever the QBs are) will be very similar to Threet/Death Kitten this year.

The biggest factor is going to be reps, and Beaver is not going to be able to take any reps for the next few months while Tate will be practicing and actively learning the system, as opposed to watching it. I've seen them both play multiple times and have to say that while Beaver is far and away the better athlete, Tate is far and away the better QB. If you watch them react under pressure, Beaver tends to force throws and make mistakes, while Tate is much better at throwing on the run. In the long run Beaver will be the better fit, but as for what this team needs right now, Tate is the better fit. We are not presently a good enough football team to stick an athlete at QB and "let him run around" more often than not it won't end well because we have no Beanie Wells and our O-Line isn't exactly on par with OSU.

Coaches read the defense for him? A big part of our offense is the read option, which we didn't see a lot of this year without the right type of QB. This requires the quarterback to make the right read, and decide between a couple different options.

i was talking more about the audible side of it rather than the reads required for options. But the reads are based on what one or two defensive players do. (example: if the de crashes in the qb pitches it if he doesnt the qb keeps it) The qbs in RR system are never going to have to make decisions at the line on how to attack a cover two or any other type of denfense. Thats why they're d and o coordinators are in the boxes. They send in the audibles for the qb (hence the look over before every snap)

I always have beavah fevah. prophet. I agree on the headiness advantage tate gives and the fact he'll have a comfort level in the offense that sb wont considering the injury and all. But by the time the season roll around and sb has been "coached up" a bit he"ll be the one the offense is focused on. Even more so because there is no o line to stand behind and throw. and our rbs arnt too shabby.

Either way I am excited for anyone of them. Each will add a new dimension to the offense. We have our own Colt McCoy in Tate and Dennis Dixon in Beaver. In the end I agree with the thought that Beaver is the more explosive player and I want to see him on the field faking the statue of liberty play and running it for a td the same way Dixon faked us with that play.

"Coaches read the defense for him." What, is there some sort of coach-player mind-meld when Beaver's on the field? If coaches "read the defense for him" does that mean he executes things perfectly as a result? Like he's some sort of automaton? A football golem? A gridiron Terminator? If it were that simple, then there'd be no reason to play the game. Just have the coaches grab their controllers in front of the widescreen and dispense with the silliness of having the players play, since the coaches are doing all the work anyhow.

I was being a bit sarcastic man. but yes in a way they do. the play is sent in, then the coaches in the box look over the defense and send in an audible based on what they see. The qb never makes an audible on his own in rr offense. look it up.

throw but I was not impressed with Beaver's mechanics. Loops the ball a little too much. Similar to TP. I don't think Beaver will be starting because of that. I do hope he improves the arm and gives us a viable option to fallback on. Sidenote: Anyone else find it funny that TP plays in a stadium that looks like a toilet seat?

Beaver is a project, Tate is the more complete QB. Add in the injury issues and it becomes far less likely we see Beaver start this season.

I still think that Threet is going to be qb for most of the season. Both Tate and Bev(love that name) are going to need time to adjust to the size and speed of college football. Michigan Fans have paid the price in full to allow Threet this opportunity. For either freshmen to be the impact player we are all hoping for is unrealistic. That being said, Threet will be the qb and his experience has been paid in full by all Michigan Fans. As I've stated in another response, Michigan can't afford to redshirt either of these players. Michgan Fans should be excited that we have two quality qb's heading to AA but lets be real they are still freshmen. Mark my words fellow bloggers Steven Threet will look very good next year-experience comes with a price tag.
