BC hires Lukabu as DC, not Campanile
Rutgers is supposed to be hot after Campanile. Be interesting to see if he wants to take the leap to DC or wait for another opportunity while staying at UM.

Weren't BC and Rutgers (where his brother is) both going after him? I would assume he goes to Rutgers, but maybe he'll stay. That's the nature of a Power 5 program. Your assistants are usually up-and-comers who leave after a year or two.
You have to think that if Michigan's offense continues to improve and is solid next year, that Gattis will be getting some calls for a HC position.

I thought it was announced that he was leaving, or am I just going by rumors? So he was a possibility to leave, but it wasn't a sure thing. I would rather be a paid analyst at UM than coach anything at Rutgers. No way you can improve your resume there.

I think most would agree with you. But he has family ties to Rutgers and is from New Jersey. Plus he would likely get to be the DC instead of just some position coach.

I mean, Rutger sucks, but that has to be a significant salary bump. And even if you deliver mediocre results there, everyone will think you're a genius. If you suck, so what? It's Rutger, no one will blame you.

Yeah but it would be miserable getting your teeth kicked in every week and trying to keep the players motivated after 'another' losing streak or blowout loss.
Plus not sure if I'd want 'an almost certain to fail' gig in my hometown/state. It would suck to have that kind of added pressure.

Rutgers' DC only made $100k more than Campanile this past season (base salary, not including bonuses). Partridge probably made more than the Rutgers' DC when you consider bonuses. If Campanile leaves, it shouldn't be about money.

Relatively speaking, 100 Grand per year is a lot of money, especially if it’s added on a large chunk of cash. And, it will influence the next salary when he moves to another school.
I would like to make “only $100k” more than I make today.
January 6th, 2020 at 7:51 PM ^
After taxes and cost of living in Jersey it's a lot less than 100k. Not saying it's neglible but some of these states with progressive tax rates make Michigan look positively libertarian.
January 6th, 2020 at 8:58 PM ^
I agree, but Michigan bumped Partridge around $175k to keep him last year. So yeah, I don’t see why they couldn’t do the same here if they want him to stay.

The money Rutgers can pay assistants probably went up considerably as part of the package necessary to get Schiano on board
January 6th, 2020 at 10:11 PM ^
Oh someone was saying it was a done deal to BC... he goes by a couple of names...
January 6th, 2020 at 3:25 PM ^
I wouldn't go to Rutgers. Joining my spoiled-ass moody AF brother sure as hell wouldn't be an incentive.
January 6th, 2020 at 3:27 PM ^
It's difficult to not be moody when your name is Nunzio

Would like to keep him around as LB's looked good this year and keeping those NJ ties can pay off with Partridge gone, but if he leaves, it might make more flexibility in replacing both guys rather than just one in terms of who can coach what. Need to nail an ace recruiter in one of the two hires if he moves on.

Sam is teasing some “interesting developments” for the staff. Will be interesting to see how it shakes out. JH has done well with his hires so I’m sure he has a list of candidates in case of more departures this year.
January 6th, 2020 at 3:53 PM ^
Not sure if I particularly like the words "interesting developments" when it comes to our coaching staff.
January 6th, 2020 at 4:49 PM ^
Dunno. Could be a competent QB coach. Having said that i don't know if anyone was going to get more out of Shea. Not impressed with Mc Daniels?
January 6th, 2020 at 5:01 PM ^
Did you expect McDaniels to be Anne Sullivan? Where he will earn $$ is with DCaff, Milton and McNamara.
January 6th, 2020 at 4:28 PM ^
Did he specify minute adjustments or some great philosophical shift, as it were? Any idea of scale?
January 6th, 2020 at 6:20 PM ^
We can not have another philosophical shift! Kids can’t be told to learn a new playbook every year. They need repetition so muscle memory kicks in during games.
Sorry for the “get off my lawn” tone. We need to excel at our approach to the point where the other team knows it’s coming and they can’t stop us.
January 6th, 2020 at 7:39 PM ^
Like with the o line! It was so good seeing the o line have their way even with Alabama. And they held their own against OSU.
January 6th, 2020 at 3:43 PM ^
Interesting developments is that better than a gut feeling?
January 6th, 2020 at 3:58 PM ^
My bad. It was actually “interesting rumblings” so it does appear more gut related.
January 7th, 2020 at 3:10 PM ^
Chinese takeout for lunch will do that.
you don't really buy chinese food, you basically rent it.
January 6th, 2020 at 5:36 PM ^
Twitter is saying that BC led this weekend, but now it’s a Michigan vs. Rutgers battle for his services.
January 6th, 2020 at 5:46 PM ^
If Schiano is truly offering him the DC job, he is gone.... Schiano will do even better at Rutgers this time around and Campanile will try to tag along.
January 6th, 2020 at 7:04 PM ^
Not that I am a Schiano fan, but can you imagine what he is thinking going back there. He has to look at it and think he left it in a pretty good place and look what they did to it.
January 6th, 2020 at 9:36 PM ^
I don't think Schiano's second tenure at Rutgers will outshine his first.
January 6th, 2020 at 10:01 PM ^
I don't see it happening either. On the one hand he was able to win at Rutgers before; on the other hand the stories I've read about him don't make him look like the kind of guy I'd want my kids to play for, and I don't think that's going to help him.
We'll see how well he's able to recruit.
January 7th, 2020 at 1:43 AM ^
Yep...that first go round didn't include playing UM, PSU, OSU every year...Wonder if there was any bad blood between him and Day...
