BBQ Grill Recommendations

Submitted by xtramelanin on June 6th, 2019 at 9:32 PM

Mates,

I just pulled some ribs off the grill and I am afraid my gas BBQ grill is done-for.  The baffles are crumbling and the lighter went out.  We have been lighting with a match, no big deal, but with the innards turning to dust its time to get a new one.  I know some of you are wizards at the BBQ thing and hopefully won't mind sharing some great 'value' ideas on a new BBQ.

So this summer time question is pretty simple:  What are your recommendations for a gas BBQ grill, and where might they be available?

Thank you for you suggestions.

Gas, Weber. Lowes usually has free delivery. I have a Yoder pellet grill, they are nice for smoking. Blackstone flat top is great for burgers, breakfast etc. A Vision is a Cheap version of the Big Green Egg and I think as good, about 600 bucks but worth it and you can get a gas hook up for them .Anytime if you can start watching Lowes or Home Depot right after Thanksgiving. Got one grill half price.

If I may: skip gas. Get a 22” Weber performer (charcoal grill) with gas start. You can get much higher temps with charcoal, a different (IMO much more pleasing) flavor profile, can smoke, can grill, can cook with indirect high heat using cheap accessories... it’s just a better food and cooking experience.

It only takes 15-20 minutes to get a good charcoal fire going using a $10 charcoal chimney and some starter cubes; no lighter fluid (and associated self-immolation risk, or chemical flavor), no flapping at the fire to get it going: just get the coals hot in the chimney, dump them in, then control cook temp by opening and closing vents. A $40 thermometer will give you remote readouts from temp probes in the meat and at the grill grate.

It’s really not insurmountably less convenient than gas, and IMO the benefits make it a no brainer.

I have a charcoal grill, a smoker (also charcoal) and a gasser. I cook a LOT outside. If I had to pick one it would be the charcoal kettle and no second thoughts about it.

cannot imagine doing ribs on gas! Yuck!

I would go with a pellet grill. I have a Grilla Grills it's a business out of Holland MI. Do your research, I believe it the best pellet grill in it price range $500-$1000. It has double walled  construction which helps in cold weather. If you have more money to burn the other company I would go with is Pitts and Spitts 100% American made but your spending $1700 and up.

Hello! Thank you for sharing your recommendations. Unfortunately, I don't have my own grill and I am just going to buy it. I am looking for the best wood pellet grills and it makes me read Bestgrill.Reviews. The reviews are quite big and now I am comparing the supply and can't decide what I want. This is a typical problem for me. Can you please tell me about your grill - about its advantages and shortcomings. If you have something to counsel me - you are welcome.
