Basketball: FSU thread

Submitted by tasnyder01 on

Michigan goes against FSU in the best remaining game in the winners bracket.  Thoughts etc. go here.

Also, I'm not showing a stream on firstrowsports. Anyone know of any streams?

Did you watch the game?  A lot of the criticism was pretty valid.

The only thing more annoying then the doomsdayers are the people who post sporadically or not at all during the game only to come on here after they squeak out a close win and spout off about how all the fans suck so much.

Fans get riled up during the games and say negative crap when the team is getting killed.  Welcome to the world of college sports.  This has been going on for decades.  You don't need to rip into people every time it happens.

I'll say this with the mod cap on - the unreasonable criticism (there are things to criticize) has gotten somewhat excessive during games from people who seem to believe that their every profane thought is somehow important enough to post. In defense of The Last Hoke, especially for a game in a November invitational when there is extremely limited data from which to draw strong conclusions, it seems like some of the negativity was REALLY negative and indeed, there was some discipline handed out as a result of some over the top posting. There seems to be a vociferous few that really do not understand the consequences of their words.

Maybe that's because we're, you know, watching the game, and not posting stupid mouth breathing reactionary comments? No, probably not that.

Some fans do that, yes. It just depends whether what comes out of your mouth is full of stupid, or has some rational thought behind it. Wait, no, probably not that either.

Of course one of the biggest spewers of this sort of nonsense would defend it.

You were saying the sky is falling when we were down by a few points in the first half, and were declaring defeat several times throughout the thread. You called a number of players shit, and then when we did win said, "We have a lot of work to do." Holy shit. How insufferable must you be? You can't even enjoy a win.

It's just, "we suck, we're terrible, it's over, we lost, everyone is shit," and then when we win, making your statements look so completely and totally foolish, you're still down on the team, because at that point you've entrenched yourself too far into the shit to say anything halfway decent.

It is embarrassing.

The only thing more annoying then the doomsdayers are the people who post sporadically or not at all during the game only to come on here after they squeak out a close win and spout off about how all the fans suck so much.

Yeah, that sort of statement gets dumber every single time someone makes it.

"I may have been a complete and total douche bag during the game thread, spouting off a bunch of shit and nonsense, but you know who the REAL annoying fans are? The ones who tell me not to be an unredeemable asshole."

Also, like TIMMAY said, I was kind of busy actually paying attention to the game, rather than making sure my every inane thought was forever cataloged online.

Shitty fans do that. The kind who make sports terrible. The kind who create a culture where people get shanked outside of sports venues for wearing the wrong jersey. Maybe you want to turn MGoBlog into Columbus 2.0 because "That's just the way it is," but a lot of us don't want to see that shit here.

This is a resilient team. They could've rolled over when it looked like FSU was going to walk away with the W, but they fought back. This was like a Kansas Jr. kind of game. Much less in the way of implications and ending, but you get the idea.

This team does not quit. And a win like this will serve them well going forward.

There are some fair points of criticism tonight:  The free throws, obviously.  The, umm... inconsistent decision making offensively by LeVert, the flat footed defensive play by Robinson, the all-around uninspired play for part of the first and then early in the second half...

All of that said, this is a young team that just won a game away from home against a bordlerine top 25 team where they were outsized and had to rally late by playing good defense and making good decisions offensively (Stauskas could hardly do wrong with the ball in his hands.)  I mean, we're talking about a lineup full of sophs and freshmen here.  Nine times out of ten, a team like that folds once they're down double digits in the second half against a good team.  It would have been so easy to just get blown out, but instead they fought back and stole one.  It seems to me that the overall mood should be pretty darn positive.  Anyone expecting us to dominate tonight or to just cruise through our games against anyone not named Duke or MSU should adjust their expectations.  Yeah, we need to improve.  Everyone does.  But this was a very good win.

There are quite a few good college basketball teams. When a team is hot they can do no wrong. It doesn't mean Michigan sucks or they are getting outcoached or outplayed or they are playing uninspired. It happens in some stretches of every basketball game.

Jesus Christ basketball fans should know this.

It'd look better if Michigan was able to play Georgetown but oh well. I guess that's their problem.

FSU and Iowa State games will add to Michigan's resume quite nice I think when all is said and done.

Great point about "basketball fans should know this."  I think a lot of casual fans figure you've got your Dukes and Kentuckys and then there's this steep fall-off from the top handful of programs to everyone else.  That's simply not true.  It's not like football at all.  Most of the top 50, 60, 70 or so teams are so are very close.

As for Georgetown, I'm not worried about that.  Honestly, Charlotte may well be the better team anyway.  Hopefully the RPI reflects that in March.  But with non-conference games remaining against Arizona and Duke, SOS is hardly going to be dinged all that much even if Georgetown does get it back together and turns out to be highly ranked.  If we win Sunday and even just split those other two games, that's actually a really good showing out of conference.

Great win and great hustle they really wanted this win!! Questions goin forward though why is Morgan playing that bad?? I know it's only 5 games but he isn't aggressive when's he's in the game and doesn't have a good feel for the ball. I don't think the blame is on Beilein because he can clearly develop talent. My qs is why has he regressed since his freshman year?

I don't think Donnel is ready. Sure he could get a few minutes here and there but I don't want to see a kid with a bright future waste a redshirt in a few non-conference games. I don't think he would see time in-conference so to me it would be a waste this year.

Now if McGary was iffy....that would give the coaches something to think about but that isn't the case.

I'm going to try to enjoy this year and try not to think about life without McGary for now.

Hope Donnel improves this year in practice and Doyle is ready to play next year because they are going to need both.
