Baseball Thread: Minnesota (5-1 B1G) @ UofM (2-0 B1G) 4 pm BTN
MICHIGAN leading 2-1 in the top of the 3rd as I post: we drew first blood with a 2-run blast in inning #1; Gophers responded with a solo shot.
Starting on the mound for us is ace Tommy Henry, who comes in with a 6-1 season record, notching 56 K's in 47.2 innings this season and a miniscule 0.74 ERA.
We stand at 20-7 overall; Minnesota is at 12-14 this season.
Helluva fielding play by Henry a moment ago, diving to grab barehanded a drag bunt down the 1st base line and all in one motion flipping the ball to first to get the batter on a bang-bang play.
Now in the bottom of the 3rd, still 2-1.
We could call this a rivalry game if we had a Little Brown Jug for baseball, but alas...
Nice spring weather today in Ann Arbor, 60° and an occasional peek of sunshine with a very light breeze blowing out towards left. A few of the fans wearing shorts and t-shirts.
Henry struggling a bit with control in the 4th with a couple walks, bases loaded up with Gophers and just one down.
High chopper for an infield single, now 2-2. Henry should have been racing to 1st to cover but got there late.
Sacrifice fly nets yet another gopher run, and then we finally get out of the inning with a foul out.
Now down 3-2 in the middle of the 4th.
Henry dinged for a 3-run shot after walking 2 with 2 down in the 5th.
6-2 gophers now after finally getting out of the inning with another foul popout.
Plenty of time left for a Michigan comeback!
well you better get started. go out there and get some runs!
Well, I DO still have 4 years of eligibility left...
You never went to college?!?! How do you make a living?
/s
LOL
Although I'm not sure exactly how eligibility rules are worded, I'm guessing the vast majority of us (practically anyone who's not played college or professional sports) on this board also have 4 years of eligibility remaining in all sports as long as we're back in that college pursuing a degree.
I'm pretty sure your 4 years of eligibility begin when you enter college. After your first day of college, you have 5 years to use your 4 years of eligibility. At least that's the way I understand it.
Michigan threatens but do not score in the 5th. Stranded runners at 1st and 3rd, still down 6-2 end of the 5th.
Pitch count of 94 for Henry after 6 innings as he allows 1 baserunner but Ks 3 gophers.
Got to believe we'll be going to the bullpen, but first let's get the rally caps on!
We get one back but strand two in our half of the 6th.
Now down 6-3
Isaiah Paige on in relief for our Wolverines, allowing one baserunner but no runs.
After 6 1/2, we still trail 6-3
Ben Keizer pitching in the 9th for us.
Trailing 6-3...
Desperation time! Need a big 9th...
2 on, one down...
Thanks for the updates, rob f
One run in, runners at the corners...
... rally dies as Schulze Ks.
Final: Minny 6-Michigan 4.
