The B1G represented by Michigan and Iowa went undefeated in Iowa City for the first time ever in the ACC/B1G challenge in Women's Field Hockey.

The ACC is a powerhouse league:

#2 UofM > #1 UNC

#3 Iowa > #11 Wake

#2 UofM > #11 Wake

#3 Iowa > #1 UNC

Strong start for the B1G!

#4 Northwestern beat #6 UConn recently as well.

My daughter plays it in high school.  It is only easy to pick up after they explain the rules, which are not intuitive.

Me at first:  Why did they stop playing?  Why is that a foul?  Why don't . . . ?

But after the confusion was cleared up, it was fun watching the Michigan-UNC National Championship game with her.

So I notice that field hockey players are typically hunched over close to 90* degrees when going after the ball or during a skirmish. Does this not hurt their backs at all?

it is a shame that field hockey is relegated to tier 2 women's sport in the US - it truly is a great sport. Olympic field hockey in Tokyo was great with some pretty captivating storylines.

Also, if people are not familiar with it at the elite college level, they have some badass skills.

It is not the giggling girls running around tentatively and swinging and missing that you are probably used to from gym class or middle school.

It's like when you see Olympic-level badminton for the first time.  It's not the same thing as what you think you know.
