Avoiding Clown Uniformz for the Michigan-Ohio State game
The slippery slope is getting slippery. We can see where the next slide is: Clown Uniformz for the Ohio State game. You know, gotta match our big rivals special look that we know they will wear.
Dave Brandon is plotting as we speak. Addidas is plotting as we speak. The lure to do "special" uniforms for Michigan-Ohio State is irresistible. What can we do? How can we avoid it?
Don't fight it, channel it.
A simple yet elegant (and authentic) idea is to have both teams wear their home uniforms for the game. Talk about throwbacks . . . this is authentic. It is what every Michigan-Ohio State game used to look like.
When games started being televised on black and white TV, they had the problem of not enough contrast to tell the teams apart. So they had the visiting team wear white.
I don't think we have that problem anymore. Michigan's and Ohio State's home uniforms are a natural color compliment to each other. It's not like Michigan playing Notre Dame in home uniforms. This would look great and give a special classic nod to the rivalry without clowning it up.
USC and UCLA have done this recently with great success. When they first starting doing it, they each had to sacrifice a time out penalty, but now it can be done without penalty with both team's approval.

I like these the best and always have.

The throwback unis are generating a buzz. People have noticed. No one ever notices Michigan football, do they?
I was not a fan of the UTL jersey. Numbers on helmets OK.
The jersey for the MSU game was strange. Totally non-traditional. I remembered the white pants look from the early 70s. Whatever...
The players like them. They wear them, not us. I'd be concerned if they rebelled against wearing the bumble bum jerseys.
I would prefer they not mess around with this stuff, but the road unis have been messed around with many times. This is a fad that will pass. Once everyone is doing it, what's the point? No buzz from it. Then, back to the start of the circle.

I see we have some connoisseurs of fine foot ball uniforms on this board.
Well, if our young men are destined to play a game against our neighbors in Ohio, they need to be turned out at least as well as our opponents. The Ohioans appear to relish those ever-so-sporty uniform options, don't they?
May I suggest a maize and periwinkle plaid jersey, maize pants designed with extra fabric like riding breeches, and knee high football stockings in periwinkle to complement the jersey?
Our helmets could be painted to suggest leather flying helmets (in appearance only, of course, but what could be more dashing?). You know, an Ascot always looks first-class tucked into a round collared sweater!
And I've seen these poor young men bleed and have snot coming out of their noses, so it's imperative that they start carrying handkerchiefs in their pockets!
Finally, if our young heroes are forced to play men without breeding, similar to those thugs from Lansing, what could be more sporting than each of our players being equipped with a most useful set of brass knuckles?

If the players like that design, why, who are we to tell them they can't have it?

that are dumb and stupid. That's why adults and parents are necessary. And Athletic Directors with a freaking backbone.

I was being sarcastic. On the curmudgeon scale from 1 to 10 on this issue, I'm Clint Eastwood on his porch in Highland Park....see earlier posts of mine. People will use "the players like it" as a crutch to tell us why we should watch the Oregoning of our program, but the idea has a logic hole so big you could drive a bus through it and is completely fallacious.

Ummm.... lots of adults like things that are dumb and stupid too. Let's just be clear on that.

stop it with all these damn uniforms. We want to wear what we always wear. We don't need flashy uniforms to catch people's attention. We already catch people's attention with what we wear.

So apparently Adidas wanted to do something similar with Nebraska, and they said no.

(Omaha.com seems to be down for the moment)
See, DB? This is how you do football uniforms at a traditional university. Just say no.

The love of god, please call Nike. Kids love this shit and last time I looked wolvercunt and asuwolv weren't in the mother f'n game. Let the #ucking kids wear fun uniforms. #uck tradition! Tradition means keep it the same just because we are fine with mediocrity.

as much as I hated the images of the UTL jersey, when I saw us run out for the game I was impressed. I liked that big block M on the front. Even the stripes, stretched under pads, looked good. And the helmet numbers are fine.
But those things we wore last game...never again. The cheesy 'Victors Valiant' t's under the shorts made it especially galling. Horrible, cringe-worthy and failure across the board.
Now Maryland, there's a team for all the cool kids. Shit at football of course, but flash. 457 combinations too, awesome.

If it doesn't make extra money, DB isn't doing it.

Woah, a Bone Thugs video on MGOBLOG!? I tip my hat to you.

If the players like them then I'm all for it. It is more about the players then the fans! I have yet to hear a player say they don't like them, plus it was the players choice to keep the number on the helmets.

I really don't give a shit what we are wearing,as long as we beat those fucknuts!!!!!! A win in this game is much needed .....

I doubt DB is paying any attention to talk on internet chat boards (He has lackeys that might)
You can always write him an email. That is what I did. I have not gotten a response.
Let him know how you fell, one way or the other.

That is a rule now, just both schools have to agree with it for a particular game. Obviously it would only work with two completely different colors, which Michigan and Ohio both have. I don't understand why more games aren't like this. The NCAA made the rule change, but almost no one does this. I know it was really started with USC and UCLA, but I'd love to see Michigan and Ohio do it. That would look great on the field.
