I think he's the Florida qb who's scheduled to visit. He's listed at 6 foot 2, 185 lbs, with a 4.5 40 time. He has offers and is currently interested in Army, Appalachian State, Central Michigan, Toledo, and Michigan.

This kid has been on my watch list for a while. I'm not surprised that Michigan offered him, although his offer list is pretty weak. He's pretty athletic, but he has crappy mechanics and makes questionable decisions. He throws a lot of balls that would be picked off at the next level. He is excellent at keeping his eyes downfield when he scrambles. I think his vision is excellent in that respect. He could be a player, but not for a few years. I don't really see why he's a 2-star player instead of a 3-star. I think he's on par with a lot of 3-star QB's, so that confuses me a bit. But he's the type of guy who wouldn't be bad to bring in as insurance behind Forcier.

Wow, it just seems that the desperation for signing another dual threat QB is at a critical level. The 2 headed monster of Threet/Sheridan calls for offering borderline kids from Florida. Because if he's from Florida he must be good, right?

just watched his highlights on rivals. i think he definitely warrants 3 star consideration but i felt the same about aj westendorf. they are similar prospects but dantin seems a little more mobile. he is athletic and made some tough throws

No I don't get to many Florida high school games. I haven't seen a "high light" tape either. I'm just going by other offers, star ranking and talent evaluations. It looks like a real stretch for RR to offer him. But RR gets paid millions to make the decisions, so he gets the final say!

any numbers on this kid? completion %? yards? TD to INT ratio? I'm not going to question RR recruiting tactics just yet, but I am a little nervous with this one.

Why are you nervous about this offer? Any QB we bring in is obviously going to be an insurance plan for Threet/Forcier, unless a miraculous Eugene Smith commitment or a less miraculous Denard Robinson commitment happens. And if either of those guys commits, I would bet Dantin's offer gets pulled back off the table. It's getting down to crunch time and we have plenty of scholarships to give. I don't mind the idea of giving 1/85 of the scholarships to a lower rated kid at a position of dire need. At this point, it's looking like we could have a class of Forcier, Dantin, and/or Stallworth/Smith/Robinson...or we could have a class of JUST Forcier. I'd prefer some variation of that first combo.

Since I'm about 98% sure Threet will get the start out of the gate and tate should beat him out mid season or unless injured, Tates the back up plan for now.I do agree with you QB is a dire need and I would love to get a LOI from Drob or ESmith but I'm not holding my breath for either of them, like I said before I'm not really questioning the offer because I know RR can recruit (Pat White), just wondering what RR sees in this kid to offer, not much out there on him.

So I'll say something that caused a bunch of people to get pissed at me a month or two ago... We shouldn't worry about our third string QB. If Dantin comes in and he's our third string QB, who cares? He's not going to play for a few years, and if anyone's third string QB takes the field, they're probably not going to win many ballgames. We had Chad Henne in 2007. Our third string QB was Sheridan. Yep. There's almost always going to be a dramatic fall-off between your starter and your backup's backup.

I think a lot of people though are still thinking back to last season. I do think if Threet was 100% healthy we would have won a game or two more. Would it have mattered ? Maybe. Thats probably the thinking, with a conference as poor as the big 10, and an OOC schedule that is pretty poor, they're probably thinking lets have a back up QB that is as good as threet, and perhaps we won't lose that many games again, even if Tate gets hurt, and Threet gets hurt.

Yeah, but what I don't understand is the reticence about Dantin displayed by a few people on here. It's not like the coaches are going hard after Dantin and forgetting about everyone else. They're saying, "We need another quarterback in this class, and if it's not an elite guy like Smith or Robinson, then we still need someone."

we tried this with Feagin last year and it didn't work. Maybe Feagin will work out at another position, but I'd rather not take a QB and run two systems (one full fledged for Forcier and one pass-heavy for Threet) for the next two years while you redshirt a guy in the 2010 class than to use another scholarship on someone that might be a serviceable emergency QB three years from now. If he wants to walk on thats fine, but I really don't want to see him get an offer.

I'm gonna be pissed if Threet starts day1 next year. I like Threet, think he put up a great effort last year in some tough situations. He's got the potential to be a good qb, but NOT in RR's system. RR will be able to open the playbook up more with Tate right now than Threet would ever be able to.

Threet has plenty of potential to be successful in Rodriguez's system. If he shores up his accuracy and makes better reads on the option play(s), then he could be good. The kid was only a redshirt freshman, and the people around him weren't very good, either. It's not like he was the thing standing between us and a Rose Bowl.
