Athlon released their QB ranking - Michigan #27 out of 131

Saw this article that came out yesterday.  Given that we just got our own QB Enemy ranking and it appeared (me included) that we do not quite agree on Michigan's ranking (4th in the Big Ten)

Here is the link to the article....

College Football Starting QB Rankings for 2022 (Top 131) - AthlonSports.com | Expert Predictions, Picks, and Previews

BIG TEN ranking  - overall in ()

14 - NW - (116)

13 - Rutger - (109)

12 - Illini - (97)

11 - Iowa - (96)

10 - Indiana - (78)

9 - Wisconsin - (77)

8 - Nebraska - (51)

7 - Minnesota - (50)

6 - Penn St - (49)

5 - MSU - (37)

4 - Michigan - (27)

3 - Maryland - (24)

2 - Purdue - (22)

1 - Who cares, he can't play in the snow anyways....

The article does note that IF either Cade or JJ take over the full time starting role that Michigan's ranking would be much higher

Other notables:

ND - (66) - How can a team be ranked in the top 10 with a huge question mark at QB?

Washington (Penix Jr) - 57

The season will prove this out to be wrong.  Cade was strong enough to win the conference last year and he will only grow further into a leadership position.  JJ will only start if he rises even further than Cade.

I have to believe this QB dual is only making each of them better.  The well rounded offense, with no weak parts, will also propel our QB position high in its regard.

Maybe it's because we rarely have a pass heavy offense, but I always dislike the idea that big pass numbers = quality QB play. I wouldn't trade our QB's for Maryland's or Purdue's and I bet they'd give theirs up in a heartbeat for at least JJ.

Look, I'm not the world's #1 Cade believer but he is better than Taulia. Taulia is the Richrod of college QBs - light the world on fire in September against junk competition and then burst into a ball of flames at the mildest resistance.

Otherwise I generally agree with the Big Ten rankings here

Cade and JJ already combined last year as a first starter and a freshmen for top 25 or so in combined overall qb rating. I just don't see with a year of improvement whoever wins the job not being better than 27th. Whoever wins the job is going to be a very good Qb, I am 100% certain of that. I think a year older Cade provides a good floor as a top 20 or so QB , if JJ is good enough this year to win the job he pushes that ceiling even higher. People wanting to rank UM Qb situation lower simply because they have two very good options to choose from is odd to me, it's a very good problem to have and one that alot of teams around the country wish they had.

Essentially, which is dumb as hell. They already were top 25 combined last year in qb rating. Even if neither improve, which is a silly notion, that is the floor that was set last year. Also as someone else pointed out the fact that other teams are more pass heavy influencing rankings.

Maybe it's a concern about both getting playing time and splitting reps and neither of them ever really getting into a rhythm or being THE guy. Much like OSU at the beginning of 2015 when Urban couldn't decide whether to play Cardale or JT Barrett for like the first half the season and they were doing shit like beating Northern Illinois 20-13 (with a pick 6).

Anthony Richardson from Uf being ranked ahead of McCarthy and McNamara is hilarious given that he completed under 60% of his passes last year and half of his season yards came against LSU and USF, two of the worst pass defenses in CFB last year.  But sure, he's big and can run a little.
