The Athletic names RJ Moten to mid-year Freshman All America team
Obviously paywalled. Relevant information below:
S R.J. Moten, Michigan: After redshirting last year and appearing in one game on special teams, Moten took a big step forward this offseason and has made four starts for Michigan’s much-improved defense. The former four-star from New Jersey has recorded 20 tackles and is emerging as a physical presence on the back end.

Congrats, young man.

He's just what you'd want a RS freshman Safety to be. Solid, if not boring. Which is good! He allows Dax to go to do other things, which is what is needed right now.

Id be willing to bet most Michigan fans couldnt name both safeties this year. And thats a good thing

I don't find Moten and his play to be boring at all. I felt back then and still do now that his Michigan commitment in that class was one of the most important.

I subscribe to the definition of boring that Brian/Seth do. He does his job well, doesn't make mistakes, but isn't running around like Ed Reed or anything make huge plays (yet).
Like I said, RS freshman and he was raw coming into the program. Very important piece moving forward for years to come.

Was he the blitzer that hit Martinez on the 4th down? Because that was anything but boring (and I was terrified it was going to draw a weak roughing the passer call).

Yup, that was Moten. A good clean hit.

He does bring hat from the backend! Good to see talented freshmen and Sophomores throughout our 2 deep.

I feel like he’s been the quietest of our defensive starters but that’s been a great thing because that means he hasn’t been getting picked on. Play your position soundly and let the playmakers continue to make plays.

He's been solid and I'm glad it's getting recognized. Hill gets a lot of well-deserved publicity but the secondary overall has been better than I expected

Fully agree! We get a little grabby at times but I’ll take it.

Xavier Worthy featured prominently too. We could have used that guy.
But congrats to Colson and Moten. It looks bright back there.

Congratulations you're the 999th person on mgoblog to notice that Texas signed a good wide receiver.

Damn. Can you imagine JJ throwing to X? What the flock is Harbaugh thinking!?!? SMH. Asleep at the wheel.

We’ve now had 3 DCs who have produced a “good boring safety” in their first year. Wilson in 2015, Thomas in 2016, Moten in 2021. They got to play around playmakers or vets in Peppers, Delano Hill, Dax, and Hawkins.
Moten has been put in places to succeed and it’s damn refreshing seeing that

Hell yeah. Congrats young fella.
Get it

Well deserved. He’s been quietly consistent and let’s Dax roam and terrorize the backfield. McDonald has really done a great job getting the best out of a somewhat thin D. Now beat Sparty, hopefully penn state and at least he respectable against OSU. I don’t expect to beat them but not watching Don brown reading a “defense for dummies” book written by coach Kline, while crossing route after crossing route guts us, will be refreshing.

Haven’t noticed him, which means he’s doing well!
