It's none of my business why he left Stanford.  This is what I hate about articles like this, they start with the presupposition that risking your scholarship support (by entering the portal) for reasons of crass materialism (NIL) or the glory of the NFL is a problem that needs to be solved.  To hell with that, taking risks when it comes to your profession (college athlete) for purposes of personal gain is your right and privilege where we live.  You want to make more NIL or have a better shot at the NFL's brass ring? Fine, just be aware that you are responsible for your choices and best of luck to you.

I just pisses me off when people write stories for click-bait and pose artificially righteous problems to get peoples attention.

Yeah, Hinton was a 4* recruit and starter at a P5 school, so unless there's some kind of underlying health or behavior issue, his risk in the portal is almost nil; someone is going to pick him up even if it's not his ideal.  This drama of him risking it all is just manufactured.  The other guy in the article, Byron Vaughns, coming from a smaller school, there's a higher risk there.

I agree with other posters that the hundreds of players who enter the portal and come up empty is a more compelling story from that angle.  For Hinton, the only interesting bit in the article was talking about B1G football and coming to M, because he probably knew before he even declared for the portal that M would take him.

Thanks for sharing. Great info/quotes from Hinton.
As for the poorly written article: “athletes risk it all”, multiple “it wasn’t lost on”., meh. Mgo is so well written, with some outstanding message board quips, I guess I expected to see some level of writing ability elsewhere.

Nothing really new in the article. What I found most interesting was the number of players in the portal who are sitting in there without a team. I would be interested to hear more about their stories.
