Anyone Excited about the New Radio Team?
Since the announcement this winter really have not heard much talk about the new radio team. Based on the TV crew I'd really like to listen to the radio if not for the delay between the TV and radio - will probably still give them the controls for the first drive just to see how they sound together. Will be an interesting experiment having 2 color guys side by side with 1 trying be play by play. Anyone else at least intrigued?
As an aside listening to 97.1 this morning on and off, and I am surprised how little fan interaction from the UM football side. Caputo is trying to stir up some college football talk and almost all the callers are Tigers centric. A bit disappointed - maybe the general fanbase is just beat down.

Ok I'll take that as a no :)

Because any capable Michigan fan knows to stay away from 97.1 except from 10-2 for Karsch and Anderson (and Jamie/Wojo). Everyone else is a Spartan cheerleader.
August 30th, 2014 at 3:54 PM ^
Definitely not Sparty cheerleaders. With Karsch on the sidelines.
[EDIT: I'm reading the comments below, so I guess I have to use caps: IT'S STREAMED LIVE ON MGOBLUE.COM!!!! IT HAS BEEN FOR YEARS!!! ]
So, yes. I'm excited about them. Yes, I enjoyed their broadcast. More than any of the TV college guys who probably wouldn't know a Devin from a Devin.
There is delay, but I'm not watching TV so it's not a problem for me. (Apparently there's no delay to listen at the game.)

Why would any Michigan fan bother listening to Caputo?

All I was getting on wtka.com was non-stop commercials, as well. It's not the first time I've had this happen with their web streaming. Really annoying. Went to mgoblue.com and got the stream to work just fine.

Michigan does

Non-stop fricking commercials? F them...

So all these people who are getting commercials are all dumb?
STFU and check for yourself.

Who doesn't know what they are talking about now?

Over air (terrestrial) do too
It's not WTKAs fault they're only airing commercials on their stream
They're not allowed to stream the game
Same as 97.1s website/iTunes feed during Tigers
Thus
All the "F WTKA" posts are dumb

Or you could quit being an asshole about it and realize it's an easy mistake to make.

I tried WTKA and also got non stop commercials this AM. I tried 950 online and I got news rather than what was playing on the regular radio.
August 30th, 2014 at 12:13 PM ^
Nothing but commercials - anything would have been better. Guess what part of this will stick in my mind, WTKA?
August 30th, 2014 at 12:18 PM ^
August 30th, 2014 at 12:45 PM ^
It's WTKA airing solid commercials - no football, ok, commercials, you go listen since you seem to be happy with them.

You just keep pointing out to everyone how clueless you are Geaux.
They are not streaming it.
Surprisingly clueless for someone on the board so long.

Frank Beckmann was great, but what a great thing to have Dan Dierdorf in the booth. No complaints at all.

BUT
you cannot let the phone lock or switch to another app or basically do anything else with your device
August 30th, 2014 at 1:22 PM ^
Nah, WTKA is just intentionally running commercials. F them, right?
August 30th, 2014 at 1:30 PM ^
That's fine if they don't have the licensing rights to broadcast online, but they shouldn't advertise "listen live" on their site if they're not carrying the game. That is what leads to the frustration of listeners who are getting only commercials.
August 30th, 2014 at 1:36 PM ^
I only got pissy because so many people implied it was wtka being an asshole

Geaux, you are just changing the subect because you were wrong. WTKA is not streaming it as they and others claimed they would.
It's understandable you're butt hurt about it.
Best you just shut up now and watch the game.

What part of that says "yes you can stream it"????
August 30th, 2014 at 3:37 PM ^
Geaux_Blue is right. This is the way it has pretty much ALWAYS been. Local stations have a "Listen Now" button for their stations that is always there, but they don't have licensing rights to broadcast major sporting events (MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL College Sports) so when you click on the link during broadcasts of those games, you hear nothing but commercials. It has been that way for many, many years, probably at least a decade.
This is not something new or surprising.

Thanks, didnt know this. So is here no way to listen on a computer ? You need a cell phone app or you have to use the radio?

Standard. Live stream with Brandstatter & Dierdorf + Karsch. Jon Jansen in pregame. Every game. Free.

So far I love these guys. Brandy could be a little more specific on the some of the plays in terms of identifying players, and reporting gained yardage on some plays. But he'll get the hang of it.
August 30th, 2014 at 2:25 PM ^
It's almost like Brandy is trying to do hybrid PBP-color out there. He'll figure it out.
The back-and-forth, though, is pretty funny. They're just hanging out in the booth.

They were great. Put ESPN on mute early and savored our dynamic duo.
August 30th, 2014 at 3:40 PM ^
The lead announcer woman kept stumbling over her words. The color guy was a complete fool and probably even worse than the announcer. Between the two of them, the only thing they wanted to talk about was Garnder pointing out the MIKE linebacker on every play, as if that was the only interesting thing that was ever happening. They were brutal.
They were like the Z team of announcers. You could have picked two drunk bums off the street and it wouldn't have been much worse.
August 30th, 2014 at 3:58 PM ^
I tried this the TV lady was terrible and Galloway is a punk, but the radio feed is two seconds ahead and it kind of ruins the suspense of watching the game. Am I doing something wrong?
August 30th, 2014 at 5:36 PM ^
Most TV feeds are delayed due to signal transmission times. Depending on what you are watching (cable, satellite) the delay might be short or it can be long, like 7-10 seconds, Most people don't realize this. Trying to sync up with a radio broadcast can be really tricky. You have to figure out a way to delay the radio feed. It can be done, but it isn't trivial to do so.
If you are runing the radio feed through a more expensive amplifier, they usually have delay functionality built in that you can enable, but it might not allow you to set it up that high.

The new radio team I thought was quite good! Brandstatter's play by play could use a little work. He got caught chatting a number of times and didn't give a very good call. Outside of those he was decent.
August 30th, 2014 at 4:42 PM ^
unsure at times....going back and forth between trying not to be color and remembering to be play by play....but he'll be better with more gametime......dan was great with color....there're going to be just fine....but i wish i could sync radio with tv so i don't have listen to the tv announcers.....arrgghhhh!!!!!!!

I think you guys are letting your hearts (as Brandy seems like a great guy and bleeds maize & blue) get ahead of your ears.
I listened to a little more than one quarter, so perhaps he was lights out the rest of the game, but in that short time I heard him misidentify names, numbers, and yardage, and he was hesitant more than once. Additionally, on the highlights after the game, he pulled "He could go all the way!" for both Smith and Green's long runs (which is not a huge deal, but since they both got tackled well before the 10 yard line, they really weren't that close) and more importantly, he called Smith's TD (after the long run) for Green.
I like the rapport with Dierdorf, but I hope Brandy will get a lot better (which he certainly should, but you never know). I mean, on commercials I switched over to the WMU-Purdue game and their broadcast team sounded more prepared/professional.
