Any news on Gallon and the Clearinghouse?

Submitted by Bleedin9Blue on
Looking back in the forums I saw no news about Gallon either qualifying or not qualifying. I was just wondering if there was any news on that. If not (which I suspect is the case) then when would we find that sort of thing out? I know he had a low GPA and that would take a while to bring up but I believe he also needed "a point or two" higher on his ACT (if I remember the quote correctly). Essentially, I don't know how that part of recruiting works or the timeline for it so if someone could enlighten me about it I'd appreciate it.

I'm not sure if he's taken it again yet. I'm fairly sure that the quote that I'm referring to came out a month or so ago and looking at the ACT website (http://www.actstudent.org/regist/currentdates.html) says that there was a test on February 7 but if that didn't work then he'll have to wait until April 4. Anybody have any idea what sort of score you need to appease the Clearinghouse (which I assume would also appease U of M)?

The moment that Gallon or Toussaint get qualifying scores, TomVH or one of the recruiting services will make it well known. This is just like those people asking for updates about recruiting visits in January: if nothing is being mentioned, then there is nothing to report. They're not hiding information until somebody asks.

I was more afraid that I had missed such an announcement and that it was long enough ago that it was no longer being mentioned in the forum. Or, if I hadn't missed the announcement, I was wondering if anyone knew of a probable timeline for this. For example, if Gallon needs a higher ACT score and he took the one in February then we'll have to wait a while for the scores to come back and for them to be reported. If that was the one that he's reported as needing to improve on then we know we'll have to wait until the April scores are reported. Essentially, knowing the probable timeline will put the issue to rest (at least for those of us that end up reading this thread) until around the time when we should find out.

This needs to be pinned on Rivals, Scout, here, and everywhere. We aren't going to know for a while. Like, when they graduate, and past that. Into the summer. This isn't a recruiting issue, it's a logic issue. How could anyone know about final GPAs and test scores in late February?

just wait until August. The kids still have spring semester and summer school to get thing sorted out. Do they have work to do? Probably. But it's just not something you're going to get daily, weekly or even monthly updates on. It's best just to wait. It goes both ways too. I don't remember any talk last year about worries about Witherspoon, yet when practice rolled around, he was gone.

I think the guys got a legitimate question. No need for 10 people to repeat the same "just wait" response. I had heard that it was test scores that were keeping him from being qualified, not gpa. The ncaa doesn't wait until summer to run the paperwork; the kid files, and they respond. If JG took the test on Feb. 7, the OP does have a legitimate concern whether or not the test scores were returned and the ncaa updated his "status".

there are only 7 people that are currently qualified in this class. Those are the seven early enrollees. There may be people that are well on pace but until they finish all their classes and graduate, but they are technically not qualified. There are also people that are behind the 8 ball and need to work up to it. The point is just let it play itself out. Even if JG gets a qualifying ACT score, he may bottom out his grades in spring. No one knows. I just don't see the point in worrying about kids' grades in February when they have until the late summer/fall to get qualified.
