Another way to look at the 2023-2024 season

Like many, I remain giddy about the season. Despite a literal Planes, Trains and Automobile trek from Houston back to Ann Arbor, there was time to look back at this whole amazing season.

If one looks at the score by quarters Michigan "won - scored more" 49 quarters, "loss - opponents scored more" 2 quarters, and "drew - same score" 2 quarters.  49-2-2

By quarter:

1st quarter: 11-2-2

2nd quarter: 10-2-3

3rd quarter: 12-1-2

4th quarter: 10-4-1

So the sense the Michigan would start strong and then hit a lull is born out - 5 times, the opponents scored more or tied with Michigan in the 2nd quarter. The 4th quarter is skewed by E Carolina and UNLV when all of the regulars were out. Among the competitive games, both OSU and Alabama won their 4th quarters. The 3rd quarter was 12-1-2 - only once did an opponent outscore Michigan - the Maryland game, and twice tied (Alabama, and Washington).

Several observations by opponent:

Nebraska (the first "test" away) W-W-W-W

Michigan State (first post Stallion) W-W-W-W

Penn State (the first "real defense") L-W-W-W

The OSU game line was W-D-W-L

The Alabama game was D-W-D-L-W(OT), the toughest game

Washington was W-L-D-W

Finally, thank ou to Brian, Seth, and the whole MGoblog team over the years for creating this education, informative and amazing forum. Go Blue!

Didn't want to start a new thread, but Anson thinks Harbaugh and JJ are coming back ...

“49-2-2”

Michigan played 60 quarters of football. 49+2+2 only equals 53. Plus, your breakdown by quarter, added together, shows 43-9-8 (which actually does add up to 60). Am I missing something?
