Another GMAC Bowl Shootout?

Submitted by ommeethatsees on
I'm really looking forward to the GMAC Bowl tonight. The State of Michigan champion (at least until Michigan recaptures the title next year) Chippewas going up against the Sun Belt champion Troy. Some interesting stories include two prolific QB's playing their last game, CMU playing without their coach and of course the expected frigid temps. Troy will be playing the game in their home state. Since the Wolverines missed out on attending a bowl game this year this is one of the games that I couldn't wait to watch. Does anyone else care about this game and have any thoughts on whether it is going to live up to its tradition of delivering a closely contested high scoring game?

no, I'm not interested even a little bit, and won't watch. This isn't meant to be critical, but I'm amazed that anyone outside an alum or a gambler would even be interested. More power to you. Good luck to CMU though, I hope they win.

I'm interested in the game because there are only two games of college football left and I need to savor every minute of it. It's nice that there's a team that I can actually support this year.

Mac Champ vs Sun Belt Champ LeFevour's last game. Should be a lot offense. Look out for Troy's QB Levi Brown. He can play. MAC has a looooong bowl losing streak. Line down to CMU -2. I'm sticking with CMU. LeFevour has won more bets than he's lost for me. I'll take him one last time tonight.

The bowls and the networks have decided to string bowl season out as long as possible to make more money. They were rewarded by a dog like MSU/TT supposedly being the "most watched college football game in history." I find it hard to believe that more people watched it than any of the MNC games, but that is what the hype article in mlive said. If it is true, the bowls have been rewarded for screwing up the system further by better ratings. This, of course, opens the door for more crappy games after the NYD games. It is very close to a point where playing a bowl game on NYD doesn't mean anything anymore. I know that evolution is part of life, but this particular aspect of "evolution" threatens to ruin the bowl season. Bowls used to start out crappy and climax with the best games at the end. Now, there is no pattern; under the current "system," the best games are juxtaposed with bullshit matchups that only the teams' local fans should be watching. And the only way it will stop is if people don't watch.

As a current Central student and one who made the painstaking 14+ hour trip to see the game in person, I am pretty excited to see Dan in his swan song. I can understand why others aren't interested due to bowl saturation and the time of the bowl game is such that it isn't top priority, but it should be an exciting game and I think people should give it a second thought as to watching it. Plus for me, it's perhaps the last game that CMU will probably be relevant in football for a long time. After Dan and with a new head coach, next season looks to be quiet and rebuilding perhaps. My heart bleeds blue and It has pained me to see Michigan out of a bowl game these past two years, so central has supplemented me with a team to watch these last two years and for that I am thankful. Here's to hoping that Michigan makes a bowl game next year so I will have a reason to watch bowl games with true meaning once more.

My girlfriend is an alum and I am from MP so we have a rooting interest and are looking forward to the game tonight. Props to those that made the trip. Anyone know how many fans are expected?
