Very cool! Be sure to pour one out for whichever anonymous grad student sat down and did that.
I pulled up a 1947 game against MSU (to see the Magicians) and a 1939 game against Chicago (to watch Tom Harmon). This is fabulous.
I thought I would go down that rabbit hole. Nope, it's a worm hole. I will see you in . . . a while.
This mean we get UFR numbers to see how great Tom Harmon really was?
Unfortunately not. The footage from the 1940 game against OSU is not uploaded. Several of his seasons only have two or three games. I picked a 1939 game against Chicago to scrub through for fun. The footage is in excellent condition...for a game from 1939.
There are a lot of unexplained cuts and missing plays, including what was listed as a 58-yard touchdown run by Harmon to start the scoring. Most games have no audio. They are also missing the chyrons and conveniences that modern football fans are accustomed to. No first down line, no scoreboard, no clock.
In sum, it is basically impossible to track the actual game situation based on the uploaded footage, which makes a UFR nearly impossible.
I presume the Harmon plays were cut for a highlight reel for someone else and never restored.
My dream of one giant database to tell me unequivocally the greatest Wolverine of all time is dashed... will still check these out though
1930 UM-OSU. Were they allowed to snap from any position on the LoS? Saw atleast one snap from the right end.
The all 22 is superior to all other film angles, combined.
(I am somewhat poking the bear of line coaches.)
Those 1970s triple option offenses Saturday afternoons. Jinkies!
This is festive recreation. Watched my most hated game of all-time: 1966 Purdue...arrgh
I looked at the 1941 UM-MAC game and learned about and saw for the first time the halftime fight between fans on the field. Kids those days....
