Advanced stats infographic comparison: Corum, Edwards, Bijan
User @cover2figuRes is a good follow on Twitter. He's starting to put out infographics on individual players for the 2022 season. Today he published Corum and Edwards, and Bijan Robinson yesterday.
Lots to digest, much of it self explanatory, so I'll limit myself to two observations:
1) I love how the lower right chart shows how both Edwards and Corum exploited the A gap chasms opened by Olu and Zinter. (Oh hey PFF, think that might tell you something about your OL grades?)
2) The lower left chart shows how much EPA/carry each RB generated and how they compare to other RBs nationally. By this measure (and maybe others) UM had two RBs better than the 2022 Doak Walker winner.

This is beautiful. Charts are my love language

“Ooh baby- that’s such a big BAR GRAPH! Oh yes! Overlap my venn diagrams, big boy!”

My wife knows when it’s time to unleash the pie graph.
People think it’s because we’re Catholic that we have so many kids, but really it’s all the charts

You guys really gonna let the box and whiskers jokes just lay there on the ground?

YOUR box and whiskers just lay there on the ground…

Careful, you might get covered in Qmatic's scatter plot

So basically Edwards has been a monster in the three biggest games of the season -- PSU, OSU, B1GCG. Not exactly padding stats against creampuffs.

Edwards for 23 Heisman

....AND for '24 Heisman!

man I hope so.

First thing I noticed, too -- simply incredible

Interesting that Bijan's worst game, by a wide margin, was against TCU. Hopefully Olu and Zinter will have something to say about that

It was weird he only ran 12 times even if it was for 29 yards. Their passing game was also horrendous that game and they threw like 39 times.

Nobody does less with more than Sark.

Paradise, I don’t disagree. However, I think Jimbo gives Stark a “run for his money”, when it comes to doing less with more.

Ewers is basically a non-threat to run. As we saw against Illinois, you can put guys in the box to shut down the run even against good rushing attacks. But we have JJ and playing for it all, I think we see the fully activated qb run game. When you combine an excellent running game with a qb run threat, play action, and TE and WRs that are hard to keep up with, this offense is very hard to stop consistently

TCU trusted their corners in that game and brought up everyone else to stop Robinson because Ewers doesn't run. If they try that against JJ, it'll be him vs all the yards. TCU will have to balance out that defense a lot more to stop Michigan's more diverse attack. UT has deep threats and Robinson, they never really had a mid-level pass game or TE's. Against Michigan, Loveland will burn the living shit out of them if they try that defense again...

Is there access to some interactive graphs?
Wondering who the two lines are above Corum (more EPA in less plays)
December 13th, 2022 at 9:42 AM ^
Good stuff. The Corum graph is crazy, and sort of funny they threw in the carry he got against OSU as if that's remotely sample-worthy.
Feels like TCU will try to slow down the run as best they can but something that should be noted is that UT's offensive line wasn't great this year and that's part of the reason Robinson had so many yards after contact. UM is significantly better on the front so that may well negate some of TCU's aggressiveness.

Bronx, I’m wondering if TCU will move away from their 3-3-5 to slow down / stop the run. I would expect they’ll add to the box to do that - which provides an opportunity to JJ and the receiving corps.
It would seem an ideal scenario for play action.

The other thing about their 3 man front is their NT is a true freshman, granted he like mason graham seems to be a revelation and has garnered freshman all American team spots with a modest recruiting profile…have to imagine Olu/zinter have a down to down advantage there.

I haven’t seen much of Bijan Richardson’s play this season. But, I have seen a lot of both Corum and Edwards. And, my gut says - I wouldn’t trade Corum / Edwards for any other backfield in college football.
Talent is essential - effort is critical - character counts - and, nothing is stronger than a team with a focus on a singular objective.
Go Blue!

Every time I hear Bijan's name, I think of:
<insert Dijon Mustard image here>

Both Bijan and Corum will be consensus all americans this year, as will heisman winner Caleb Williams. There's a chance all 3 will be unanmious (apparently the All American teams are 21 personnel - except the AP who names 13 players on offense, the rest name 12). Would've been cool if Corum won more awards but Bijan had a solid year behind a less good line, and Caleb Williams probably was the best QB and most impactful offensive player. More than Corum for Doak Walker, I think Olu should've won the Heisman and I'm not really joking - but I know that'll never happen. I'm more annoyed the AP didn't name him an All American than anything else from awards season so far, and am hoping they both get named by the Coaches.
