7-5, I keep saying

and that I would stick by that, come hell or high water. It, for the entirety of the off-season, has seemed completely logical to me. In my head, the probabilities were a floor was three wins with a ceiling of nine. Something in the realm of 6-6 or 7-5 became not just reasonable, but also entirely logical. WMU, EMU, Delaware, Indiana, and Purdue all seemed likely wins. ND, MSU, Iowa, and Wisconsin were in the winnable games/tossups. Illinois, PSU, and OSU were in the likely losses category. See, I'm a man of my word and I never back away from that. If I make a promise, I follow through on it (I refuse to make one I can't keep). It's not that I wanted us (when I say us, we, etc - I am obviously referring to the team, which I am not a part of) to do poorly. I was keeping my hopes grounded and my head out of the clouds. HOWEVA, some of the practice reports and, far more importantly, this previous weekend has me re-tooling a lot of the logic in my head that led to those numbers and that prediction. Perhaps it's the fact that the season starts in less than a week. Maybe it's the fact that my heart rate quickens more now than ever when I see the Michigan Difference commercial. Maybe seeing an emotional Coach Rodriguez (who very clearly loves his players and by extension, our University), forced stand at a podium and unnecessarily defend two young men who thought they were answering innocent questions, added some more spice to a cauldron that's been threatening to overflow. Whatever factor it is, something has changed my outlook. I see now that this team is hungry. Any team that can attain a team-high GPA in recent history at a prestigious University, attends various tutoring sessions, manages to volunteer additional time at Mott's Children hospital, and does this while still finding time to work harder than any other team in this conference-nay, the nation-, is hungry. They want this, and they want it bad. From the numbers of different parents of athletes coming to their defense, to rival and jilted schools (OSU, WVU) doing the same, there is clearly unity being formed in the locker room. This team has the motivation and ability to hit that ceiling, easily. I'm throwing another win in, to account for that motivation. My prediction is a four loss season, or better. And I swear to god if I ever hear anybody else harp on Coach Rodriguez's and the associated program's "lack" of family values, I am going to punch them in the throat. I'm ALL IN for Michigan and its Coach. GO BLUE.

I can see 7-5 (still say 6-6) but for 8-4 they have to absolutely stomp Western and not just on the scoreboard but in the way they execute the game plan, and carry themselves through the game. There is no doubt the dubious articles over the weekend will provide motivation for the team to to play hard. But right now I can't see it taking UM all the way to 8-4; though it wouldn't be the first time you guys have changed my mind about something here on Mgo.

It is entirely possible, anything can happen on the field over the 60mins, which is why these last few days are going to be the hardest of game week, so excited to see that first snap.... Just have to watch as many of those minutes as I can.

Your probably not being serious but in case you are, I plan on waiting till sometime after this weekend to really see how everyone does in their games this weekend. Too many questions to answer on both teams to be 100% certain but right now I am 95% irish. As easily as we could beat Nevada we could just as easily lose, so after this weekend it will be much clearer picture of both teams.

with the final results. Just because we follow Mich passionately doesn't mean our crystal ball is any better than those of the preseason prognosticators. There are 12 teams on the schedule that we likely know less about than our own. Take Illinois preseason #52 Scouts in 2007. #15 at 9-4 w/ a Rose Bowl loss. I don't know why Scout places an easy-to-find link to preseason 2007 but not 2008, but I wasn't picking 2007 for any other reason than it was easy to find.

I have been telling anyone willing to discuss it over the past few weeks, 9-3 is doable, but it must start with 4-0 if not 5-0. After the events of the last few days, the reaction of our beloved coach and the comments of the players since Sunday, I am more inclined to believe 9-3 is not a stretch. Beware the wounded animal! If Saturday goes well, as I expect it will, then the first hurdle is cleared. ND is probably the most important game of the season. Win that, and the focus of which coach is in the most trouble switches totally to Charlie the Whale. A 2-0 start that will inevitably turn into 4-0 and will quiet almost all of the negative talk and the RR bashing. Lose the ND game and the bullseye will be squarely on RichRod. The more I think about it, the more that game signals a turning point for this staff and this team. A victory there is a win over a quality opponent, a win over a "ranked" team(as undeserving as that may be). It means so much to win the game between the two most storied programs in the history of college football. There are no two bigger programs than UM and ND, and the loser is in sooo much trouble. If we start 4-0 - look out little brother, the Wolverines are comin' and they have blood in their eye. 5-0 and Iowa is much more doable. If things start strong and they improve each week in the first half of the season, the success could me more than we could imagine. (Although I can imagine a whole lot). 9-3 is still my prediction, but for some reason I am blindly focused on Saturday and Saturday only, like it is the last game of the season. Go Blue

Any word on GERG? I for one am worried more about the defense than anything else. If the D is solid, that takes a ton of pressure off Tate and Denard. The worse thing for our QBs would be to have them constantly be on the field having to play from behind. Also, pro-formations (Minor Rage) for short yardage is going to be key this year.
