2022 Recruiting Thread- Pinned at top of board?

Submitted by TK on February 4th, 2021 at 11:07 AM

Is it possible for us to have an ongoing recruiting thread at the top of the page? That way we don’t have to start a new topic for every offer, crystal ball etc? Not that I mind those threads, but it would be easier to follow if it was pinned at the top. I’ve seen it on other boards and it seems to work well.

For those of us who don’t follow the recruiting sites as much, who are we looking strong for, what positions are most important etc? I would assume CB is a huge need and therefore Will Johnson is at the top of the list.

I've never enjoyed the single recruiting thread pinned at the top of the board on other sites. There's so much information during a recruiting cycle and after a point those threads balloon up to be hundreds of pages long. I liked the monthly swim lanes diary post that used to appear a couple years back which gave a nice summary of who Michigan is pursuing and how our prospects are. But that seems to be only relevant near the end of the cycle

I'm not a fan of this idea as I think it will make it harder to catch the news. This would end up being a 5000 page thread in a week. You'd have to be following it constantly to have a hope of catching the real info in between all of the snark and jokes etc. If you kept the page open all day and updated every 5 minutes, it would work well, but for those of us who check in once or twice a day, it is much easier to scan the message board headlines on the right banner to see if there is any news worth reading and then dive into the snark, jokes etc. if we so choose. Scrolling through pages of posts hoping to to find one post with actual information does not sound like fun to me.

No thanks. A lot of us will occasionally check the side tab to see, briefly, if there is any news. A sticky thread makes less room for actual news while simultaneously forcing people who are interested in the news to click and scroll to find out if there is any actual news.

In other words, it will be bad both for people who don't want to know about every offer (it's not like it's that difficult to let the threads scroll their way down as they become outdated) and those who *do* want to know about every offer.

No permathread, please.

Single threads are terrible because you have to continuously check the end of the comments for news. I'd prefer if people posted a new recruiting thread when we get multiple high confidence crystal balls for targets or there's a substantial piece of news.

Your post is also confusing because you seem uneducated on recruiting, but also seemingly want to make it harder to follow recruiting news?

That would be a little redundant. What would go in such a thread? Daily crystal ball updates? Offers? Commits? Things are fine the way they are. If anything major happens Brian or Seth puts it on the main page.

The real answer is that this site doesn't really follow the day to day of recruiting. Maize N Brew is another free site that covers recruiting in much more detail, with twice weekly recap posts and extra posts as required. If you are interested in the horse race, I suggest going there, getting on Twitter, or subscribing to 247 or Rivals. This site is better for bigger recruiting updates, larger picture views of Michigan's recruiting approach, and detailed looks at prospects through live evaluations and film watch for commits and signees.

No thanks. I'd just rather see new recruiting threads posted on the message board. Long threads with a bunch old info in it would not be useful for me.
