2022 QB recruiting update: Tayven Jackson leaves Michigan off top 9
With this, Nate Johnson out of Clovis, CA becomes the most likely to be the QB for the class. Since CA is going to have a spring football season, his ranking may move up significantly if he has developed a lot over the offseason. He’s very much a dual threat QB with his trainer comparing him somewhat to Denard. His speed is legit too since his trainer also said that he was neck and neck with Worthy at a relay race.
However, it looks like Johnson really wants to visit his top choices and isn’t in a hurry to make a decision. Very possible that Michigan sends out more offers and their board shifts.
This would be the class to take a high-upside project. It’s highly unlikely any QB brought it would be needed for at least 3 years.
Highly unlikely any QB brought in would be needed for at least three years? This does not sound like a comment from someone who has followed the Michigan Wolverines for the last decade.

I suppose the better choice of words would have been “ideally.”
We have two upperclassman QBs, followed by a project, followed by a “can’t miss” true frosh. IDEALLY, we’d have at least three years before needing any production from any QB in this class. But perhaps that just not the way college football works anymore.
You really feel confident enough to say “highly unlikely” with the QB transfers we’ve had, injuries we’ve had, and QBs just flame out that we’ve had? In an ideal situation, he wouldn’t see the field for a few years. But having watched Michigan football, anything can happen.
Cade McNamara went from QB4 his freshman season to starting a game and relieving in another this season as a redshirt freshman, to being the odds on favorite to start next year. Dylan McCaffrey went from backup to projected starter before bolting. Milton started most of this season and he’s gone. “Highly unlikely” isn’t a term I’m going to use to describe any type of stability in that QB room for a while.

Seems like we’ve seen a ton of 3rd/4th string disasters for opponents, too. The tiny Navy transfer for Maryland, Nate Montana, Rutgers generally, etc.
You always need good qbs. Load me up. Does not stop other teams.
I'm sure the staff has some overly complicated plan to bring in another stud QB.
No IU. Interesting.

I thought that was interesting as well. His list has some biggish names (Auburn, Tex AM etc) but it comes across like someone looking to play as soon as possible (Arkansas, Wash St) rather than worry about the name on the front of the jersey. I salute that approach. North Dakota State has proven you can become a first round NFL talent without playing for the Alabamas of the world.

Having UCLA and Tennessee in the top 9 makes me question his judgment.
Alright, let’s turn up the jets on Johnson.

Only reason I don’t care is because either one of the Mcs is going to work out or Harbaugh is gone and it's back to square one anyway. Please can we have some Irish luck!

First thing I think of with that list is that he wants to be a qb in a campus with hot chicks everywhere. Can't blame him.
Based his final 9 picks -- good, but largely mid-tier good -- it could be that he maybe isn't a must-get priority for Michigan.
