My thoughts? Joe Milton needs to transfer out before McCarthy gets here.

I think most don't know that Thunder said this:

word out of Ann Arbor was that the coaching staff sat down with Milton and his family this off-season to explain to him what the future looks like in 2019 and beyond, with the implication that the seaweed might seem greener in somebody else’s lake.

I saw that.  Seems a bit premature.  Milton is going to be in his 4th year when McCarthy is a true frosh.  Maybe Milton is making zero progress on his accuracy issues, but seems kinda early to be giving up on a guy with so much physical talent.  If he gets passed my Mcnamara before then, it might make sense.

Things like that can happen with coaching changes.

It's hardly the only reason for such a meeting. There were rumors that Milton was unhappy with his role as a true freshman. If true, that's reason enough for a meeting to clear the air, to give him a realistic view of his current situation and of what he needs to do to see the field. The goal could be to hang on to him, more than to push him out.

I'm really skeptical that Harbaugh wants to lose Milton now. As you said, if McNamara were to establish himself, it would matter less.

What sort of physical talent makes up for a lack of accuracy in a QB? Milton isn't the second coming of Denard. In fact, he probably doesn't have as much "physical talent" as DMC. He was always a project and I'm not sure why so many people got so excited.

Lots of recruits are projects in one way or another, even some that are much higher rated. Milton was always a boom or bust candidate. It's okay to get excited about them, even though you know they might not pan out.

Accuracy is very important for a QB, but it's something that can be improved. In fact, it's something you'd expect QBs to improve on even if it wasn't a relative weakness for them. That sounds like a challenge McDaniels and Harbaugh would embrace as long as Milton has the desire needed. Having a strong arm to work with means he has the potential to make some throws other QBs struggle with.

The coaches are not asking Milton to leave. They played him in 4 games including the OSU game. He will be competing for the starting job after McCaffrey leaves, which could be after next season. Milton was probably just a little disappointed that his biggest advocate on the staff was Pep and he's gone now. Milton will see some action this year in mop up duty.

If accurate that might be the realistically best scenario for JM. He was always the bit-of-a-gamble kid with great arm strength but a lot of work to be a power 5 starter. It may be less of an indictment of him and his progress and more a case of the reality that someone in his shoes may benefit most from the a place where he can start for a few years to develop and show off his talent and that may be difficult to do at Michigan because of the other also really talented and maybe slightly more polished guys around him. Right now it looks like if he stays he’s gonna be waiting on DMac and then in a dogfight with Cade, JD, and JJ when they are all on campus, who may have as much or more talent and be ready to go faster than he was. purely speculation but if I’m in his shoes I’m at least weighing my options. seems like a great dude and teammate so I hope he sticks it out and earns a year or two at the helm or does whatever’s best for him if not that.

Most don't know that this is another one of Mineral King's accounts. He spent over a year posting how Brandon Peters should transfer and is now pushing Joe Milton out the door.

Most also don't know that Mineral King is James (chat sports) Yoder who hoped to create an insider account here and many additional accounts to give said account legitimacy

Quit posting negative shit about players just so you can in the future say that you were right. Or better yet quit posting on Mgoblog.

You are Mineral King. If you don't want me to point out your accounts stop pushing your theories etc and/or being negative towards players. No one here is ever going to think you are legit James and we all know you just take paid content and then throw it against the wall and/or try and start rumors about back up quarterbacks because they are the easiest to guess who might transfer.

It's 2019 you can create Michigan content without resorting to this...

The kid is a player-very impressive physical talent for a sophomore QB. Clearly many of his "antics" are not advisable at the big-time college level-well, any level really. His decision-making will surely improve. A lot of skilled talent around him. Not sure why they, so often, insisted on running on 1st and 2nd down and left themselves in 3rd and long-don't we know too much about that scenario! But McCarthy is cut out for an offense like Alabama and Oklahoma ran last year. By all appearances, he is going to be damn good.

Not sure why you're getting negged. I don't think anything you said is wrong or nit-picking...I think it's "this guy is clearly gifted and has all the tools to clean up some things when the game gets faster at the next level".

The running around -20 yards in the backfield to throw a 25 yard pass into triple coverage for a gain of 5 yards is incredibly athletically impressive at the High School level and I'm super excited to see how he grows and matures physically and mentally at Michigan. But like you said, it's not advisable at the big-time college level. Against OSU, those could be drive killing sacks deep in our own zone or INT's from some NFL first-rounder DB's.

So, your take is a good one.

...and that is what I was referring to...like that play where he is scrambling and had given up about 20 yards...is about to get tackled for a safety and he spins and for all intents and purposes simply throws the ball up for grabs...and it is completed for like an 8 yard gain. On the one hand a tremendous play but I guarantee you that his coach was not feeling anything positive when that ball left his hand.

Otherwise, there are a ton of idiots on here who don't know a damn thing about playing-anything and will neg you because your not a zealotous homer.

This is a VERY gifted kid...a difference-maker...a kid who can win an NC for you...and has plenty to learn yet.
