Thanks for this.

Watching this again, I had forgotten that they actually attempted to mix in a good amount of passing attempts the first few drives with absolutely no success (9 passes to 13 rushes).  Of those passes, Cade was 3-9 with completions of -4, 0, and 33 yards.

Early on they weren't setting the world on fire on the ground either, so I don't blame the coaching staff for sticking with the run game and once they finally found something that was working.

Either way, getting a comfortable win in a game that I saw as a toss-up to start the year is great.

Those screen passes were all DOA due to craptastic blocking from the wideouts.  Holy hell, that was bad (I'm not naming any names).  REALLY miss Ronnie Bell.  That, alone, would have made a big difference.

Really thought D. Baldwin was gonna be a big factor for this offense, especially after Bell went down.

Maybe down the road he will be.

If UM can run for 300+ yards every game then it might not matter.

Seems to me like the passing plays were generally blown up by one or two missed blocks. Many of the failed screen plays such as the screen to Henning at 7:55 could've been a big gain if Wilson wasn't blown up by the defender. Some of the other pass plays were very close to big gains as well (tipped ball at LOS, long developing in route at (2:30)). Roman Wilson had a step on his defender on the early deep shot to him (0:34) that could've been a nice play if the ball was thrown 2 feet further. I'd bet the receivers will be working on blocking a lot this week.

This was a bizarre, out of character passing game for Cade. I've always seen him as having an exceptional first read followed by a decisive, accurate throw. Hopefully it truly was an anomaly.

Harbaugh, pregame: "OK wideouts, here's the deal: 1 successful block = 1 target."

WR, among themselves: "Pfft, he's bluffing, let's call him on it, Coach wouldn't go a whole game without passing."

ugh, watching this doesn't make me feel much better about the passing game.  All the throws in the flats were blown up because the WRs can't block.  On the few downfield passes Cade was missing open WRs or holding onto the ball too long (the almost sack play).  Hopefully it's nerves, though he did miss some wide open WRs against WMU too.
