Speaking of weather, I hope our very own mgoweather makes her triumphant return to the blog!
October 23rd, 2020 at 10:54 AM ^
Where did she go?!.. left the state too?

I've never seen her post anything but her Friday evening weather preview. Not even sure if she's commented on any of the comments her weather posts elicit. For someone who's seen/heard on TV so much, she sure does seem shy!

This. This. This.

It is chilly. In Duluth, we've gotten 10 inches of snow this week. The trees are covered, btw, and look lovely. Not so much in the Cities, and snow shouldn't be a factor for the game, but it's brisk.
As I commented in the preview, Minnesota has had more time to acclimate to this. It has been cold here for a couple of weeks, and that physical transition to remembering how the cold affects your limbs, your breathing, etc, is non-trivial. I don't know that Michigan players have really had to do that in the same way.
October 23rd, 2020 at 10:33 AM ^
It's been in the upper 40s/50s during the day, 30s on certain nights in SE Michigan for the last weeks.
I assume at some point during the time the team has a couple of night practices.

It has been at or below freezing for two weeks up here. I think the reality of just living daily life in cold weather, going to class (well, not that this year), walking to the store, etc is underrated with regard to dealing with the cold. It's usually something Michigan will have no problem with, but uniquely it's kind of a thing this week up here. A few days in these cold temps really do acclimate you to it, and to how your body responds to it.

You folks in MN has been hit hard by the early winter pattern. Good luck. I saw low 80s in Northern OH and IN yesterday. Quite a summer to winter contrast in a span of about 500 miles.
October 23rd, 2020 at 1:25 PM ^
Which is why I question myself every yr why I still live here in the winter. Then I realize that with 3 kids, college educations and all my other bills, that I’m broke as shit and have no choice.

Good. Headed to Stillwater today. I miss cold weather

Seems like a tough situation for a Florida QB to make his first start in. On the road, at night, against a good team, with temps in the mid 20's. Not ideal Bob. By the way, as I type this the feel like temp here in FL is 93 with the humidity on the high side.

i was told that the weather would be scary. this doesn't look very scary.
and SRJK, 10" of snow is a good start. we had a couple last friday, but it melted right way. we did have 5+ inches of rain since yesterday though, and that has made some parts of the farm a muddy mess.
October 23rd, 2020 at 10:59 AM ^
Same systems we got, just the other side of the snow line.
We'll be a muddy mess when this stuff melts, if it does. Still quite early in the season for it, even up here.

We're busy but well, thank you.

Milton should use one of those pocket jerseys with a few Hot Hands hand-warmers stuffed inside, if that's allowed? Kid is from Florida remember.

He always talked about how one of the main reasons he went to Michigan was to get used to the cold since most NFL teams play in it. After three years of that being a focus, he'll be ready.
October 23rd, 2020 at 11:18 AM ^
I hope his focus was a tad more on reading defenses, accurate passing, and knowing when to keep on a read option than cold weather.
/s .... cuz everyone’s sarcasm meter has died from covid nowadays

I love Hot Pockets. Especially those pepperoni pizza ones.
October 23rd, 2020 at 1:30 PM ^
Thanks to covid the Hilton I’ve stayed at this week has ham and cheese hot pockets for breakfast instead of, an actual breakfast. By day 3 they began to taste like a lard omelet.
October 24th, 2020 at 6:11 AM ^
When and why did you have a lard omelette?
October 24th, 2020 at 12:01 AM ^
We used to get those by the case for our kids. Playing baseball and softball in the Chicago area in March and April...and sometimes May can be really brutal.
October 23rd, 2020 at 11:28 AM ^
Just a tad cold no big deal
October 23rd, 2020 at 11:42 AM ^
Yes, the temperature in the 27-28 range entire game looks good. No snow expected. Also of note is the wind speed will be 5-8 mph so it won't be a factor. I think there will be ample passing opportunities for both teams.

Get rid of these audio pop up ads! Wtf!
October 23rd, 2020 at 12:15 PM ^
Did you get caught surfing at work?
October 23rd, 2020 at 8:48 PM ^
No. Just annoying.
October 23rd, 2020 at 12:13 PM ^
Not ideal but could be worse I guess.

Hold onto the ball.
Pound said ball.
Repeat.
October 23rd, 2020 at 1:54 PM ^
"Run the damn ball down their throats!"
Yes, please keep doing what has proven time and time again not to work. Who wants to lose less that 3 games this year anyway?
October 23rd, 2020 at 3:19 PM ^
Could be some snow on the sidelines. A friend who lives in the area reported yesterday that Minneapolis got 8 inches on Thursday. Since the temp has remained near freezing or below since then, snowballs anyone? Brutal weather for a first game.
October 24th, 2020 at 6:24 PM ^
Cold weather generally tips the offense to favour the run game. I think this works to our advantage.
I saw somewhere Bateman was the highest ranked player in the Big Ten behind Justin Fields. He averages 20 yards a catch, runs great routes, has a big catch radius and sure hands. Morgan is the 2nd ranked QB and our CB's are green. So anything to slow them down will be good.
At 5'10" 215 Mohamed Ibrahim is an excellent prototypical downhill runner. He'll run over not around guys. Hopefully Kemp, McGrone and company will be there to meet him.
Conversely, Charbonnet is a similar style of runner but bigger. The difference is he's not going up against the defense Ibrahim will be. This could decide the game. Although if I was Flack I would stack the box and force Milton to throw.
We'll see how the chess match plays out,
