2 Dantinio quotes that incensed me

Submitted by TorontoBlue on

1)  "I'll go on the record as saying this one counts as more than one," Dantonio said."  pardon me, but no it doesn't.  you fuckin won one game out of the last seven when we're rebuilding.  go fuck urself.  this was one game.

2) "This was not the fall of Michigan football. That's not what this is about," Dantonio said. "This is a great win for our program."  pardon me - you were picked to win.  you satisfied expectations.  that is all.

Now I really hate this asshole. He's a douche. . . . .

I think the guy's weird and probably an asshole, but honestly I don't see too much to take offense from in those comments.

Ok this is Dantonio's second year. His team just beat their biggest rival for the first time in the last seven attempts.

Now assume that we lose to OSU this year. Next year Rodriguez will be in his second year. If Michigan beats OSU, they will have just beat their biggest rival for the first time in the last six attempts.

Are you telling me that Michigan beating OSU this year or next year wouldn't be more than one win to us or a great win for a RR program?

The great ones keep their mouths shut.  A good coach should always smile and say "I'm proud of how our boys played today.  Michigan is a tough opponent and they deserve credit for playing hard.  It's always good to get a win over a rival."  Watch one of Tressel's post-game interviews after beating Michigan.  He acts like he has been there before.

apparently dantonio was named one of the coaches most likely to have a big time job in a few years along with coaches from byu and temple. see daily article. also, i doubt RR will go anywhere unless he is run out of town. clemson seemed like one of the best suitors for him and he turned that down (though numerous other factors went into that)

Isn't it galling that 2 out of the 4 programs mentioned there as not being "big time jobs" are ranked, whereas Michigan is not? I'd rather have a small time job with a good team, a great fanbase, and a good bowl bid than have a big time job struggling to win against Toledo and Utah; two teams that are (surprise!) small time programs, by the way.

Dr. Worm,

You seem to want to "poke the bear" and elicit a "sore loser" type of response, so you can go on your familiar "OMG Michigan is so arrogant" diatribe. Save it.

You won, congratulations on the win. Enjoy it while you have it, and we'll take a run at it next year.

Until then, try to act like a civilized human being.

Not really Dr. Worm.  WV was ranked #2 BCS (#1 in the coaches poll) last year before losing to Pittsburgh.   But RR wanted to move to the next level.  My point that Dantonio will move on if he has any success simply acknowledges the reality that good coaches can pop up anywere.  Once they achieve success, however, they generally tend to gravitate to the more prestigious jobs at traditional football powers.  MSU is generally not considered to be one of these powers.  In 40 out of 41 years, Michigan would not (and will not again) struggle against the likes of Toledo and Utah.  And Sparties take note--it won't be too long before we are wiping our asses with your toothless and barefooted mother's thinning hair.  Enjoy it while you can.

#2 didn't bother me.  It was a big win for their program.  They've been picked to win right after devastating losses in the past and blown it into their normal tailspin.  This win gave them hope that there is a new less awful mindset at State.  Do I think they are going to be good?  Not really.  I think they will continue their second teir status in they big10, but this game offers them hope.  That is big for any program.

quotes didn't bother me much. he could've had a field day with 'little brother' or followed up on his quote last year 'pride comes before the fall'. still he is a tool and i was annoyed when they dumped the gatorade on him like this was a great coaching job by him. i understand why they did, but still...we're 2-6 now. save the gatorade for when you beat your first ranked team under dantonio

I don't like Dantonio.  I hate that he beat us, him with "having it in his blood to hate Michigan."  So his comments are stupid.  Whatever.  He should be happy about beating his biggest rival after 6 years, although he shouldn't take too much pride in the fact that this is a down year for UM.

What I don't like is how everyone in the media says how reserved and serious Dantonio is, when he really isn't and says asinine things about how much he hates Michigan.  IIRC he is very religious and doesn't swear at all (I could be wrong--it might be one of his assistants I read about), but that doesn't excuse him from saying obnoxious things.  I'm not offended, but just pointing out a little hypocrisy.
