2 Crystal Ball notes in last 24 hours

NJ 4* DE Aaron Armitage has had a rush of picks for Stanford including a few flips. One of which was formerly in for Michigan. While sifting through our prospects I see a lot of guys on the offensive side but not much on the defensive side. So any guy we were in on who was noteworthy that drifts away hurts even more.

One good note is T.J. Guy the 3* DE who is announcing today has had a flood of ballz go in for Michigan.

Yes, information is updated to reflect the current situation. Kids change their minds on who leads all the time. I would figure having accurate information is a good thing instead of having outdated Crystal Balls listed on their page.

Another positive Crystal Ball update for Michigan is seeing Georgia trend for DE Elijah Jeudy, who's deciding in a couple of days. Georgia is thought to be the main competition for Quintin Somerville, and they may not have room for him if they take Jeudy.

Interesting that Jay Harbaugh is the primary recruiter for Somerville, not Brown or Nua.

Any idea on the progress Brian Jean-Mary is making on the recruiting trail? I remember him coming in with some solid recruiting history at prior schools.

What about Shoop? I know he's more of a defensive coach than a recruiter.

A lot of schools will do “primary recruiter” based on geographic location. For example Don Brown is a great primary recruiter to have in the northeast, Partridge was great to have in Jersey. Could be that Jay is assigned that particular area if that’s the way Michigan does it. Then once the foot is in the door with recruits, position coaches take some of the duties over in recruiting the player.

As for BJM and Shoop, I would assume that CoVid and the extension of the dead period has put a damper on any impact they could really make so far. Hard to create that brand new connection when you aren’t able to visit the recruit at home or in school, he isn’t able to come to campus, and the only contact you can have is texting and video chat.

Yes that’s right. Jay is largely situated out in the west coast which is why he has primary for Somerville. But Jay and Sherrone Moore are also exceptions since they are Michigan’s best recruiters and sometimes get added on to recruitments when they want an extra push.

So far BJM and Shoops effect has mostly been felt in the offers that are going out. TBD if they can close some of these targets. I have also noticed that Michigan has been more active in sending offers to the NW region which I think is because of Shaun Nua. We’ll see if he can pull any talent out of there (especially if he can build a Polynesian connection).

Don't underestimate TJ Guy.  Would be ranked higher if he played in another part of the country.  Kid is an excellent athlete and football player.  Played at high level in hoop.  Can carry 280+ on his frame.  Comes from an excellent program with great coaching.
