That was my blog post and I appreciate you referring to the caps as sailor caps. I had originally posited that the caps were freshman beanies, but descendants familiar with the situation reached out to correct this. Arthur was a merchant marine and his cute “Dixie Cup” caps helped negate the ferocious nature and expression of the mascot illustrations. Hence our sailor-wolver-bear.

Anyone have any idea where the pennants will be? Usually when they give away stuff it’s impossible to get your hands on it. I know with past giveaways they put out a box and it was a free for all.

That 1962 team was one of the worst in our history and the most unlikable. Guys were faking injuries during games against OSU and MSU so they could be taken out. 

The sophomores clashed with the seniors and they changed the culture of the program as juniors and seniors. Two years later the 1964 team broke the Big Ten title drought and won the Rose Bowl.
