Very impressive showing so far by Lucas Davison at 285; he's responsible for 5 of Michigan's 22 points with a fall and a major decision win..

Go Blue!
March 22nd, 2024 at 12:47 PM ^
Should be working but couldn't help myself and checked twitter...
DeAugustino lost 4-2, his weekend is done
But the big news at 125# is Penn State's Braeden Davis lost and will drop to the bloodround
Ragusin won his match 9-3 and will head to the semis, he's guaranteed a placement
I really should get back to work so...I will try not to post more. If you see me on here, it's because I lack discipline.
Lemley falls to Happle 14-5
But,
Gomez rallies to win 12-9 against NC State Arrington! Headed to the semis!
Go Blue!
Semis tonight at 8pm est on ESPN
Impressive showing by Gomez to make the semis. Gave up an early takedown but escaped and got a nice takedown of his own and rode out the period to get a 1-point lead. His opponent tried to be the aggressor in the second and Gomez took advantage to earn two more takedowns and build a big lead.
In the office I'm working at they've got March Madness on the TV & I'm over here w/ESPNU on the iPad watching Gomez get it done
Multitasking. Showing your skill set. All good.
What time are the finals, and are they being livestreamed for free?
Finals are tomorrow night at 7pm on ESPN.
Semi finals are on ESPN tonight at 8pm. Michigan has at least two competing in the semis tonight.
Griffith to semis. Great comeback win 8-7 over Simma.
3rd M to semis.
Wow, a last second takedown gives Davison the upset against #2 Bastida! What a finish!
That was fun and they didn't even screw us with review!
4/5 to semis tonight! Not bad
Bastida is a beast but what a clutch takedown for Davison for the win!!!
I couldn't even pretend like I was working because everyone saw me staring intently at my iPad
Wow, Michigan goes 4-1 in their quarterfinal matches, including 3 upset wins. Heavyweight Lucas Davison continues his impressive tournament run by beating previously undefeated Yonger Bastida of Iowa State.

I will update the consolation matchups and the team scores once the afternoon session is over, but as I type this Michigan is in 2nd place. A very distant second, but still.
Great results in the quarterfinals. Michigan wrestlers are underdogs in every semifinal match but hopefully the guys have some more magic.

Penn St still has all 10 weights represented - 4 in the blood round, 6 in the semis - any dream of an upset in the team finals is realistically gone. But there's a good battle for 2nd between us and the teams listed - the Iowas have 6 still alive, 2 in the semis, and ASU has 4 in the semis as well (none in the bloodround).
excited to see how our 5 finish. Should be a fun evening and Saturday. GO BLUE!
Foca wins by MD, just Amine in the blood round for M.
Let's go blue!
Team in a clear 2nd heading into the semifinals. A few points to be had in the consolation round that's about to start.
1. Penn St 84.5
2. Michigan 50.5
3. Arizona St. 44.5
4. Iowa St. 41.5
5. Iowa 40.5
Griffith and Davison with some of the most clutch wrestling I've seen in quite a while.
Big Ten getting it done in wrestling.
Ragusin match's nuts
Tough loss. The margin on these 30-second ride out matches is too close for the refs to not have a role in the outcome. Why not just keep doing neutral until someone takes someone down?
Can anybody explain what happened at the end there? They nail Ragusin for locked hands so does that mean that Fix gets an automatic point for the escape? I thought Ragusin could continue his ride and try to ride out for the win…
I came to this blog to find the explanation. It’s tied but with a ride out doesn’t Dylan win with the riding time advantage?
Ragusin let him up because the tiebreaker for a tie score at the end of overtime is riding time which favored Fix. Therefore Ragusin needed a takedown to win. Ragusin didn't credit for riding time after the locked hands. If he rode him out he would have lost the tiebreaker.
So riding time stops on locked hands, it makes sense now. Thank you
So riding time is paused during locked hands?
Correct.
Gomez to finals!
Gomez is exciting to watch. He is so aggressive.
Loves action. Lovett upset as well!
Gomez just works hard. Gotta love that kind of wrestler. Got a great shot at a pretty wide open 149 weight class.
Amine loses in the consolation and is eliminated in the blood round at 165.
Griffin coming up. He has a tough match against 3 time national champion Starocci. Both are dinged up so could be interesting.
March 22nd, 2024 at 10:13 PM ^
Griffin goes down.
Starocci is a stud. Obviously under seeded due to injury.

great first period

Have yourself a tourney Davidson!
To the finals!
March 23rd, 2024 at 12:01 AM ^
Austin Gomez takes on VT's Caleb Henson tomorrow night
Lucas Davison matches up against PSU's Greg Kerkvliet.
Griffith and Ragusin will wrestle for 3rd-7th in the consolation semis.
Penn St locked up the team title, with 6 finalists and 2 more alive for 3rd. Michigan sits in 2nd right now but the race is tight with ASU and both Iowa schools within 5 points - ASU has 4 wrestlers alive (2 finalists) and the Iowa's have 3 alive, with everyone's next match worth 3.5-4 team pts at least.
