...question, MaizenBrew Dave politely takes his SBNation colleague to task for the statement with this posting that compares the team's offense and defense by recruiting credentials.

His conclusion?  Michigan is the more talented team, but he gives The UConn Blog's author the benefit of the doubt that the team's experience may trump Michigan's.

What I think our friends at the UConn Blog are getting at is that UConn is a veteran laden, talented group. They've got plenty of depth and a lot of good players. Looking at Michigan's roster, however, I think you'd be hard pressed to find areas where the Huskies possess higher rated recruits. Talent only goes so far unless you've got guys that will execute. Personally, I feel that football is one of those games where effort can top talent in any game. And if you've got organized talent, well, you're in great shape.

It's impossible to deny that the Huskies are a talented team, though I don't believe they're as talented as Michigan is position-by-position. What they are is a very organized and well coached team, and that by itself may be enough for them to trump Michigan's talent advantage.

How I wish that were true.

Also completely agree with bluetell.  UConn will never be more talented than Michigan just as Indiana will never be more talented than Michigan (in football).

...someone alerted the author to his error since he replaced Warren with Woolfolk.

Beyond the "more talented" idiocy, I thought this bit was quite funny:

Although it is by no means a lock that they will, the team better look good, because otherwise it might get pretty depressing around these parts

Really?  Losing to Michigan will cause great depression among UConn fans? Beyond underestimating the talent level of Michigan, he's seriously underestimating the abilities of the Michigan fanbase to be depressed by a loss in this game.  I don't think the relative level of depression is even close to comparable.

Well, he wasn't really comparing depression levels.

This is probably the most anticipated UConn football season ever.  They'll be the higher ranked team against the Nation's most storied program.  A loss like that would be brutal.

But I agree with the sentiment that the game is probably more important for us and will cause more anguish if we lose.

...he wasn't.  I am pointing out that in football, UConn is a minnow compared to Michigan in tradition, success, etc. -- and in reaction to disappointing football results.  For him to state that there will be significant depression in Storrs if they lose to Michigan is depressing in its own right because it's another indication of the hit Michigan's reputation has taken.

Hope I was clearer this time.

And here I thought north east coast universities were usually pretty decent.

Bottom line: If you go purely by talent and potential, UConn should win this game. There are a couple of things that give me pause though.

More Talent? Really? I do not think that word means what you think it means.
