Nothing like a road demolition to announce your presence with authority.

PSU, a team with a similar recruiting talent profile, was unable or unwilling to compete with Michigan on a down per down level.  PSU had a couple big plays schemed, the Clifford run and RB swing pass  that was wide open and dropped in the 4th quarter which in retrospect was odd they put on film.

Rushing home after a local kids fall festival; I made it back in time to watch the game with my Dad.  It’s a rare occurrence unfortunately.     He, who is on the other side of 80, had the perfect method for watching that game, he slept through the 2nd quarter.  He awoke to me swearing at the TV at the 2 bounce pick six.

We were elated with the rest of the game like everyone. His memory, especially short term memory is fading, but after dinner, a scant 4 hours later he said something that made me spit out my scotch.  “Harbaugh needs to win the big games though, MSU and OSU.”  I laughed and said something about Michigan Alumni never being happy.

It was just Michigan fan cliché bingo card.  PSU win?  Then it wasn’t a big game.

Meanwhile I’ll spend my time enjoying the season, especially after next week’s night event vs MSU.  I’ll spend most of next week looking at long range weather reports for the 28th, the rest concocting scenarios on which 12-1 Conference champions, Michigan could get a playoff bid over.

Enjoy every part of the season; the blowouts, the closer than expected frustrations, Corum’s Heisman run, and the enjoyment of watching all the other teams get upset.  I see you Tennessee and Utah!

Jamaican Manhattan & Sugar Glider

Wife Day preview this seems dated with the big box shopping stores and malls and it was only 12 years ago.   My wife day will be spent doing kids Halloween at the Troy Historical society and then at the church’s Trunk or Treat.

An aside, what’s the deal with Halloween now?  My kids are encouraged or required to dress in their costumes almost 10 times before Halloween, these fall festivals, 3 trunk or treats (one at each school and church), school parades, and then Halloween.  Might as well spend $100 on a costume, they are wearing it 10 times.  In my day, Halloween was on the 31st, you got your candy only then yada yada yada. The costume I wore barely made it to the end of the block.

Definitely owned this: Probably threw a tantrum to get it

I will get back to my sofa after family time, Saturday evening and make these drinks.  One for me and one for the wife.  Ill watch the end of the Oregon – UCLA game (Go Ducks!). Both feature Dumante Verdenoce, a pistachio liquor which is amazing.  Tough to find, not sure available in Michigan anymore, but worth the order, Pisa is another pistachio liquor that is available in Michigan.  Frangelico can be substituted in the meantime.

Sugar Glider

One of the wifey’s favorites.  Also looks impressive even though super simple when she has friends over.

Ingredients

2 oz Rumchata

1 oz Dumante

.5 oz Vanilla Vodka

Splash triple sec

Grated nutmeg/ cookie crumbles for garnish

Take all ingredients.  Put into a shaker add ice.  Shake until ice cold (20-30 seconds) strain into your cocktail glass.   The important part.  Can grate nutmeg over it.  I like to keep coconut chocolate cookie crumbles in a small container, whenever  I make a milk or rumchata base cocktail  throw some pinches on top.

Jamaican Manhattan

Odd calling this a Manhattan since the base liquor is different, but I don’t name these

Ingredients

2 oz dark rum

.75 oz Dumante

Orange bitters

Cherries for garnish.  Use real maraschino cherries or nothing

Take all ingredients.  Put into a shaker add ice.  Shake until ice cold (20-30 seconds) strain into your cocktail glass.  Garnish with the real maraschino cherries.  Check the weather for Saturday again.

Rum and Dumante is a nice-sounding combination; I am gonna try that. In fact, you and my fellow Mgobloggers have inspired me to keep the football at bay on Saturday, work around the house and yard, and fix dinner for my wife. Last Saturday was our 29th anniversary and I kinda. . . forgot it, so I have been trying to make up for it since. We can start with a Jamaican Manhattan, idea she will like since she taught on a Fulbright at UWI Kingston for a year and used to work in Manhattan.

Thanks!

Pistachio flavored liqueur? YES PLEASE!

I just picked up my first bottles of Italicus and Domaine du Canton, and can't wait to start messing with them.

Cheers!
