WTKA Roundtable 12/16/2021: A Fun December Comment Count

Seth December 16th, 2021 at 10:48 AM

Things discussed:

  • The softness of Ohio State fans: fainting couches for Desmond making fun of their OL.
  • Happy Urban Meyer fired morning.
  • Big Ten recruiting and realignment. I pitch my Showcase idea again, because it is the perfect solution.
  • HBCU takes the #1 overall recruit and the SEC feels entitled. You can’t pay players to choose your school over better career options, only we can do that.
  • This recruiting class: Brian loves that they used their championship to finish, I love that Michigan recruited to their strengths and soft spots in the system.
  • Who’s going to play next year? Johnson. Mason Graham, probably Sabb or Zeke Berry. Going to see more Macdonald amoeba.
  • OL recruiting? They’ve got an extra year of eligibility for everybody.

In keeping with the soft serve mentality of our neighbors to the south, their 4th place finish in crootin rankings has articles being posted with topics like "what does osu need to do to improve recruiting?"

I don't know if this topic has been fully explored here, but Michigan beat ohio in football this year. They did!!

That's Awesome!

With regards to recruiting, I believe this is absolutely a class that can beat OSU.  And that should be our measuring stick.

We got two QBs which gives an extra shot at a great one.  Orji in particular could add something special to the run game.  Dude is a beast.  Will be interesting to see if either becomes a starter with JJ and hopefully Moore coming in '23.

Stokes reminds me some of H2: super strong, very quick, good vision.  He's faster than Haskins but no quite as strong.  We could use a transfer for depth, and we need two next year.

WR...this may be our best class ever.  Yes, I remember the DPJ, Nico, Black class, but how did that turn out?  Walker, Clemons, and Morris area all game breakers.  Combined with McCarthy's talent...this is an insane talent set

Two high-ceiling TEs with the build to be ready to contribute early.

Three high-ceiling OLs, and a gem in Gentry.  The OT position looks well-stocked.  Will need a bigger class in '23.

Defense is probably an even better class.  DL is loaded with Moore, Graham, Grant (who I think is vastly underrated).

Edge is the only question mark in the whole class.  Pollard could be Ojabo 2.0 or end-up being an LB.  Henry may not stick.

LB went from potential weakness to strength when we added Rolder.  Spurlock is a crazy athlete who plays WR and LB in high school.  His ranking is laughable.  If Alexander doesn't stick, adding another could be good, but we have lots of young talent here.

This is our best DB class ever.  Will Johnson headlines, Sabb is another top-100 player, Berry is top 200, and Kody Jones is another 4-star.  Pollard's ranking doesn't match his exceptional film and Dent could be another diamond in the rough.  Even if half these guys don't work out, it would be an amazing class.

So...can this group beat OSU?  Great OL potential, a RB who makes tacklers pay and gets stronger as the game goes on, a QB that runs like a tank (and two QBs with very good arm talent), excellent WRs, and one of the best defensive classes in memory, particularly on the back end to counter OSU's strength.

Yep.  We got this.

Perhaps Orji comes in with a package of plays that protects McCarthy a little, similar to what McCarthy did for Cade this year. Only when McCarthy does decide to pull it and run teams might have forgotten how fast he is.

nah never mind. Maybe just have Donovan throw it 1-2 times a game with a flea flicker or 4 and then the defense will be as honest as can be.

A great December! I was thinking the same thing. To be in a December when things matter, with weeks to relish the end-of-season wins and enjoy hope for what's coming.
