Brian

Sort punchy posts today, I guess, but a reminder: softball takes on Alabama in their WCWS opener tonight at seven EST on ESPN. Varsity Blue has a thorough preview.

They finished 6th in the second round of the NCAA championships, and advance to the Final 8, where they take on USC. While on the topic, why hasn't golf historically been able to compete with the top of the BigTen? I think their last championship was 1951.

The comparisons between our golf program and basketball program versus those of MSU are striking. The MSU golf facility at Forest Akers blows what Michigan has out of the water (basically a small range in the back corner of the course). MSU consistently out-recruits Michigan for the top in-state talent. It's obvious that Michigan doesn't make golf a priority (using the MacKenzie course -- same guy who designed Augusta and Crystal Downs -- as a parking lot for football games) and it shows in their performance over the years. I don't want to take away anything from the guys on the team because I played high school golf with some of them and they are great guys. What they have accomplished this year is amazing and hopefully it is a sign of things to come.
