1. Northwestern Recap

starts at 1:00

Michigan is so hard to strategize for. Hunter Dickinson demands a double, and you can't double him. Running horns with a high-low—incredible that they're already on the back end of the playbook at this point in the program. Rules say you can't do a pullup on the rim but Seth is still mad they T'd up Chaundee. Announcers versus added probabilities.

The rest of the writeup and the player after The Jump]

2. Maryland Recap

Serious discussion on whether Hunter Dickinson has ties to the Ukranian mafia. Michigan goes 2-3 zone and sticks with it, and Michigan goes on a run. Dickinson's flex earns an awful technical. Maryland shoots the lights out and still can't compete. Having a hard time not saying things about Juwan that are fair for a 2nd year coach.

3. Harbaugh's NFL Flirtation

Toledo reporter Jordan Strack has it on good sources that Harbaugh's looking around at NFL jobs, and probably would prefer to take one if they call. Would they call? The NFL has taken far worse ideas than a guy who went to the Super Bowl in the third year of a four-year rebuild. So…Soup? Soup.

4. Hot Takes and Around the League

This conference is ridiculous—three centers are in the Kenpom Top 10 and a fourth got pushed out for Marcus Carr. We love Both (pronounced Booth") Gach. May not be the only Disaster Factory on Minnesota. We cursed Armaan Franklin into a sprained ankle by saying he's the reason IU is so much improved.

I did not know that Maryland fans went that hard. I respect it though.

The big problem for U-M and Harbaugh is that if there is no NFL job for him, it's almost inevitable that the perceived consolation prize status of the Michigan coaching job will be a drag on the quality of the coaching staff he would be able to hire and the recruits he will land. He doesn't really want the U-M job, will probably continue to look for an NFL spot, and everyone will know it. This is a shitty way to run a program, and Manuel is an idiot for setting it up to fail and everyone associated with it.

Except that perception will be entirely based on the same bullshit unnamed source stories that have been coming out saying Harbaugh wants to go the NFL every year that he's been here. It's just that Ace wants those bullshit stories to be true this time, so he's breathlessly giving them credence now.

Did Warde negotiate the original contract and the original buyout amount?  He was forced to work within the constraints of what he inherited here.  The optics of an $8 million buyout during the financial hardships of this time for Michigan athletics would be pretty bad.  In addition, he wants to treat Harbaugh decently as a favored Michigan son and as an indication to future Michigan potential coaches of how they will be treated.  He has done ok given the constraints he inherited here.  The “idiot” hired Coach Howard and Coach Pearson.  Your “hot” take needs to wait for this all to sort itself out before drawing a conclusion that Warde is an “idiot”.

Thanks. Great stuff. (I'm with Seth, bugged about the T.)

Now that I've hit 10,000 points, is there some reward? Like the 5-Timers Jacket on Saturday Night Live? Gilded coupon to CostCo? A certificate certifying certain respect & admiration?

At least a Get-Out-Of-Jail card for up to 5 downvotes?

Completely agree with Seth's take; Warde has offered JH a contract with a lower base and (more importantly) a lower buyout. Harbaugh is ready to move; the only issue is whether he gets an NFL offer he can live with. There are far worse coaches than Harbaugh in the NFL, but you can't overestimate GM stupidity so we'll see.

The question is does Warde read Mgoblog? It kinda/sorta feels like he might. Michigan players rarely read it and frankly I don't blame them. Our passion as fans makes us too hard on 18-22yr olds on this board. Would you want your son to read some of these takes? But based on the hiring of coach Howard and how this is playing out, Warde just may be paying attention to this site.
