The Matt & Seth Show: Disguising Zones
Matt Demorest, Realtor and Lender and I have brought back our (sometimes-)weekly video short. The purpose of these is to show you something on film that you as a fan will be able to pick up on when you see it in the future. This week I went back to the soft coverages versus Rutgers to show why they're a weakness in Michigan's base Cover 3, and how Michigan will sometimes use a switch zone to make an offense pay the ultimate price for trying to hit it. If you're in the housing market, Matt's the guy.
There is nothing after the jump because it's video content.

Couldn’t you just glue a mustache on it?

The changeup is basically a Cloud coverage (3-Cloud or C-2) where the CB is responsible for the Flat, rather than the Backer (who, as pointed out, is normally responsible for Curl to Flat)
QBs should be looking at the Safeties pre-snap and post-snap to read the coverage, but sometimes easier said than done.
(IIRC O'Korn's late interception versus Ohio State occurred because pre-snap the deep middle was open; then post snap, because of the rush/protection, he was unable to see a defender move into the deep middle.)

Yeah anyone who says this from an armchair needs to experience Mason Graham consuming their soul.

I guess my only question is, can we set teams up to think it's cover 3 when it's not without first letting Rutgers throw ten yard curls and out routes for a half in the future?
